They said the exact same thing when XP came out. And it is great when it comes to games, seeing that your PC isn't older than the socks you're wearing.

It's a "pain in the ass" because people are stupid and get annoyed by stuff without even trying to change settings or tweak it to fix them.
It probably takes me a few hours to get all my windows specific settings all set right when I reinstall windows, but it's exactly how I want it so it makes it easy to use and I don't get surprised.
That said this site should give you what you need

Re: Uninstalling Vista
Meh, vista truly is annoying, and that's not cause im dumb, or lack the knowledge.
It's an OS you have to work for to be able to use it in any way. I'm not into that. I'd rather have XP, which runs smoother, looks better with my skin, and is way less annoying.

Priam: I dunno, if I were getting a new computer today, I'd get Vista simply because it's going to get more support and updates than XP and stuff is probably going to start requiring Vista to run so might as well start getting used to it I figure.

Vistas good. I have my friends saying its shit just because they hear other people saying its shit. Most of the things that make vista annoying can be turned off anyways.
I think it would be easy, just have a legit copy of xp.

Re: Uninstalling Vista
As far as i know, XP is still the standard at the moment. By delivering vista with every new pc atm, they are trying to build a solid userbase to change this fact. We don't have to join in.
Yes vista receives more updates yes, and XP next to none. But XP is stable, and doesn't need any. It's exactly why some people are still using windows 2k. Vista for me is downgrading, i don't get anything out of it.
My laptop came with vista, so i have a copy. As soon as vista shapes up, i might change, as i did twice before. But for now, i got dissapointed twice.
hell ive got 2G internal memory, and i can't even run WoW without shocking lag on vista, while with XP, i run it on the highest res, without any problems at all.
That, and vista Farking up other programs i use daily, has led me to keep it locked in a closet for a while.

Re: Uninstalling Vista
Vista is hit and miss. If your computer literate you'll catch on to whats going on with all the new stuff and how to get old stuff working. IMO XP was more of a pain in the ass than Vista when it comes to running stuff. Granted i just started using it but i already like the new features and if you have a good enough computer it won't interfere with anything you do. I don't like that it takes up so much memory to run however and so much HD space. I have a 250GB HD and when i got i only had about 191GB, after deleting the crap that came with it including a full copy of sims life i freed up some space but still never got over 200GB

the drive i have vista on is only 25gb and it has quite alot of other stuff on it too, it cant be vista taking up all that space.

Actually, there are allready several reports on vista actually taking up that load of space. Granted, you may solve this by tuning down some options, which take a load of space by default.

Re: Uninstalling Vista
You can ask for an "upgrade" where the company will install XP on the computer instead of Vista. (I think it's funny they refer to going from Vista to XP as an upgrade
)
If that's not an option, you can just have an XP CD ready and boot it with your new computer (make sure your computer boots off the optical drive first through the BIOS). With the XP CD, you go through the text-based instructions of the installation and it gives you the option to create or delete partitions. Simply delete the Vista partition and create a new one. Install XP on the partition you created and grab the hardware drivers from the company's website once you're done installing XP. If you know what kind of computer you're purchasing already, I suggest downloading the drivers beforehand so it'll be less of a hassle.
Vista just wasn't right for me. I didn't have any huge issues with the OS but there were a bunch of minor annoyances that made it difficult for me to work with. I've been testing Vista ever since it was in its beta stages back in 2006 and while there were many improvements it still leaves me dissatisfied with performance. >.<

Re: Uninstalling Vista
dont uninstall vista
partition your drives and have both off a boot menu
stores are giving massive discounts if you buy with vista
(example dell inspiron same computer -$270 vista and -$100 xp)
i found a guide for you that will show you how to partition with vista installed first

What would be the purpose of not uninstalling Vista? >____> A dual-boot system would be useful if you have software that won't run on Vista so you use it on the XP partition. Keeping a partition thats just hogging storage space seems pretty pointless.
He could simply buy a computer with Vista for less money and install XP at home. o,O And most computers these days come with an operating system restore CD and the Vista serial number under laptop or somewhere around the I/O panel on desktops in case he wants to try Vista later on or somethin'.

Re: Uninstalling Vista
Don't leave vista on any partition. this is pointless.
Make a recovery CD (if u didnt get it allready), and kick off Vista. When the time comes, you can put it on again.

ok total HD space i can see is 219, theres another drive (D) for recovery purposes and that has 13GB, i dunno if that cumulative or separate but even assuming its separate that still leaves 18GB unaccounted for. I guess thats not to bad but i don't even know if the OS is included in that 219 figure, i went to add/remove programs and the numbers defiantly don't add up.

Re: Uninstalling Vista
Format c:/, reboot, insert xp cd; install...
And xp vs vista; xp is the winner.
I had to do a series of tests and explore the OS.
XP didn't crash once. Vista, I lost count after 10...
The exploring in XP went superfast, while Vista had the UAC which drove me nuts after 5 minutes
I haven't tested XP (sp 3) vs Vista (sp 1); sp 1 removed a lot of the UAC warnings.
And here's a quote from a microsoft employee:

The UAC was specifically designed to annoy people so they wouldn't mess with/change the System Files. Or bypassing/disabling any securityservices provided by Vista.

Same problem everyone has, they dont know that you can just turn UAC off altogether... Also, i think crashes in vista must depend on your system as a whole because ive never had any problems that people always complain about and it runs alot faster than XP did on this machine. XP used to crash more aswell. Only major problem ive had in vista so far was hardware related that still would of happened in XP anyway because ive seen it happen many times before in XP.
Fine, it might not work well on your system, but that dosnt mean it wont work well on everyones system.

Couldn't you have done like any other mentally apt person and googled it? Or do you need a step by step guide for that too?

i don't understand the significance of the number change. Its still a much large number than Ghosts' but it just seems kinda of point, like you piggybacked on a post and didn't even add anything....
btw, some ppl really do have downs and they can use vista just fine
