SPACE KANGAROOS AND GLOBAL WARMING
www.ems.psu.edu wrote: Let’s establish why there is a greenhouse effect.

  • The surface of the Earth is warmer than it would be in the absence of an atmosphere because it receives energy from two sources: the Sun and the atmosphere.

  • The atmosphere emits radiation for the same reason the Sun does: each has a finite temperature. So, just as one would be warmer by sitting beside two fireplaces than one would have been if one fireplace were extinguished, so, one is warmer by receiving radiation from both the Sun and the atmosphere than one would be if there were no atmosphere.

  • Curiously, the surface of the Earth receives nearly twice as much energy from the atmosphere as it does from the Sun. Even though the Sun is much hotter, it does not cover nearly as much of the sky as does the atmosphere. A great deal of radiation coming from the direction of the Sun does not add up to as much energy as does the smaller portion of radiation emitted by each portion of the atmosphere but now coming from the whole sky. (It would take about 90,000 Suns to paper over the whole sky).

  • So, it isn't even as if our atmosphere had only a minor influence on the surface temperature; it has a profound one. In the absence of an atmosphere the Earth would average about 30 Celsius degrees (about 50 Fahrenheit degrees) lower than it does at present. Life (as we now know it) could not exist.

Okay, so there are two (2) primary sources of heat, the sun and Earths atmosphere.
But what heats up the atmosphere?
Seems obvious doesn't it? The sun, right?
Well, it isn't as obvious as that.
The reflected light of the sun (light reflected off water and especially of the ICE) heats our atmosphere.

So what's this got to do with "Space Kangaroos and Global Warming" :?

According to yesterday's issue of a China Post article:
Image
"And the point of that was to make people aware that reflected light, or lack of reflected light, has a very big effect on climate."

Scientists are concerned that the melting of the polar ice caps, happening at a faster rate than expected, is quickly robbing the earth of some of the vast white spaces which have traditionally reflected the sun's rays, she said.

"If something is white it reflects a lot of light, if something is dark it absorbs it, and that will affect the temperature of our atmosphere," Vickers-Rich said.

"If we reflect less of the sun's energy and we absorb it, then our temperatures will rise. And they are rising, there's no doubt about it."
In other words,

You might be right.
It was back in the day when Issac Asimov was writing his Foundation Trilogy that I bought one of his non-fiction books on debunking common science misconceptions.

I remember him saying that if black coal dust was spread over the polar ice caps (like crop dusted with coal) we 'could' bring on a new ice age.

Interesting how much we are learning, I felt 'special' after reading his book but now-a-days it's just a simple concept.

The earth is warming up but up here in Canada we had the most snow in something like 15-20 years. So yea the temp is going up in the summer months but it's also going down in the winter months.

Do the average of the past 6 years. I can't remember a specific year where we had a white Christmas before this one.

I saw a show on discovery channel that said that the water is rising but by millimiters and it will take 100's of years for it to rach death lvls. And also he said that it is BS that the glaciers are melting he said that the % of ice in antartica has risen alot in the past 3 years.

In my opinion global warming is a scam. If it happens it happens no use b!tching about it. Races aremeant to die with the seasons. Thats the way lfie is. Maybe in our next life we will be space pirates from planet 3572e05tasdditas6r9835

Politicians in the US do use the idea as part of their political campaign and you're right to look at this aspect as a scam.
What are 'they' getting out of it? is a valid question.

My best research shows that we don't know why it's happening.
Mainstream scientists all agree that it is happening though.
I've heard of studies of Ozone (O³) being introduced into a controlled environment and measuring the test subject lifespan.

It's more than "ohhh, noooess... the coastline is shrinking, shrinking..."
We're trying to speak about sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Of course the politicians jump on the bandwagon with "Vote for me, I kiss your babies with SPF45 on my lips" stuffs but that doesn't mean it is "BS".

D you seriously think the water isn't going to rise? If so, how do you explain it has already and still is rising?

yeah, we had a ton of snow this year.

but that's not really because it cooling down. In fact, (I'm no expert, but my idea is this at least)because of the overall warming of the earth, the water cycle is accelerated, which means more precipitation makes it up to us through the currents of the Atlantic. I'm guessing you live in eastern Canada Blindfire, since the west still gets just about no snow.

anyway, that's my take on the more snow, it's more than likely completely stupid and not at all true, but wtv :P. And yes, the winter was colder than normal, and longer, but hell, it was 30C here in what, early march or something?

example

take a cup of ice and fill it with water let it sit for 3 hours and watch how the ice melts and the water level LOWERS so tell me what will happen to our oceans?

There's alot of ice that is not in or on water, alot of it is on land.
Just because you had an experiment in school doesnt mean your an expert.

some badass rhymes over there lol..

During the 20th century there was fear of an ice age. I say lulz to those who are shitting their pants over Global Warming. I think its media build up taking the situation way out of proportions.

I don't believe that CO2 is responsible for the increasing teamperature.

No one can say for sure, that is my oppinion though =] Im certainly not bothered to type out my reasoning. Go search on google about the Hockey stick graph of Al Gore... His evidence in that respect for CO2 as a cause imho is flawed.
