as nightbloom stated in her original thread directed at me, i AM the head of my guild and union. my guild and union are both against popping. as such, it is my duty to kill poppers. it's nothing personal. furthermore, i posted those quotes to a) exhibit for nightbloom that her allegations against me were false, and b) highlight the fact that i was avidly speaking out against the actions of my union against you, ryoko. i don't appreciate it being turned around on me.

I would gladly help Ryoko ANY time he needs it, if you really wanna stop 1* poppin you would escort them... problem sloved, i wont, wont , wont stop poppin its fun, and not enuf 2*'s why waste my time looking? i can make 10 loots out of 1 ill even pay guildmates to drop me loot =P to get me started if there was another way i would do it. BUT there isnt so ya know, not my fault, but hey if i see you from the forums... your safe =P

our alliance rules clearly state no popping. someone caught doing it would likely get a warning first, but on 2nd offense, they'd get the boot. we make it publicly known that we're anti-pop, so if someone with our tag does it, it makes us look bad. i think it's important to have principles and stick to them. like you, people stick to our principles because they respect me, and they respect the alliance. but if someone disrespects that repeatedly, we don't want them as part of our team anyway. likewise, if i don't stick to my principles and take action against poppers, it makes me seem soft on the issue; not a good way to command respect.

i've been thinking about this a lot. i have come to the conclusion that i just don't think i could kill a friend who was popping. i would probably desuit and just kill their thieves till they gave it up. anyone who really knows me knows that i try to avoid problems whenever possible and resolve conflicts and disputes as amicably and quickly as i can. it goes against my nature to kill a friend.

i can honestly say that i don't know what i would do. i have never been faced with the situation where i had to make the choice. i feel it's important to have principles and stick to them, yet i value friendship above everything else in this game.

i can talk tough and say i'd kill so-and-so if i saw them popping. but when it comes down to it, would i? i hope i never have to find out.

anyway, i'll say it plainly, just so we're all clear: i love ryoko. i don't agree with what he does in this case, but i don't judge him as a person because of it. and i don't care what anyone else thinks on the matter. i think this has degenerated into attacks against me, and that's not what this thread is about, regardless.

You can easily recognize them because they never stay stucked in the gate (wish i could do that with an average camel >.>)

RIGHT AGAIN! i made no such judgement. b) since this is a THREAD about 1*-popping, i used the hot topic - poppers - to illuminate this theory. feel free to substitute the words "KSer", "scammer", "botter", "griefer", etc. in place of that word. it applies to all of them. regardless of your - or my - stance on popping, the fact can NOT be disputed that it does cause SOME grief to SOME people, and as such it can clearly be described in the same manner as the other words in that list i just enumerated.

that leaves two types: people who play their characters they way they live, and people who play the way they want to live. in both of these cases, it becomes clear that people's actions in-game are in some way based on reality. in the first case, a popper does what he does because he is generally a selfish person. he knows what he wants and does what he needs to do to get it, regardless of consequences to any but himself. in the 2nd case, the popper pops remorselessly because he would never have the balls to do something like that in real life. vicarious sadism, in a way.

my point is that it's not illogical to associate someone's in-game actions with their RL personality; on the contrary, i feel they are directly linked, in the ways outlined above. therefore, it is completely appropriate for Moogie to lose respect for someone she previously held in high regard as a result of something they've done in-game.

One star popping is not a flaw, a bug or an exploit and has been deemed a legal tactic by the makers of the game SilkRoadOnline and is therefor a valid part of the job title "Thief" for those who wish to employ it.

Since I have never jobbed in this game yet I think I can see both sides. The lowby traders are afraid of the high level thieves so they 1*. The thieves get frustrated because all they find are 1* so they try to pop them to make some $$$ (the reason to job in the 1st place) and get out of suit before i high level hunter finds them.

Now I will admit that when I 1st heard this I thought that poppers were lazy bullies. The more I read and talk to peeps IG I realize that while some are by no means are all thieves like this. The other day while grinding Taoists in the ravine a single trader comes by with his fire bull. 3 thieves run up and all I can see in chat is "WTF 1 star bull???" and a "Hehehe" reply from the trader. Now to me this seems just a bit off. If you are high enough to use a fire bull why would you seriously go 1* unless you were messing with thieves. I think this more than any other thing I have seen or read helped me understand poppers. BTW ther are also ahole traders. When I was at 19 and grinding down the Chakji workers for quest 5 traders came off the ferry on bulls. Usually they group up or go single file. These guys went side by side and filled the valley from wall to wall with NPC spawns. They were hysterical watching the noob slaughter. Made me want to be alive and a thief I'll tell you.

On the other side there are the lazy bullies. Also if Joymax didn't see it as an exploit, why the upcoming update where thieves' spawns can only attack the thieves that spawned them.

While the system is not perfect, and with so many different opinions never can be, It seems that popping is part of the game. The only way around it would be some kind of level comparison mechanism. Instead of the current 1* the game would look at the lvl of the thief and the trader. If they are within 5 lvls than the thief can attack. No more 1* immunity but you wouldn't have to worry about a 60 thief attacking a 25 trader.

That is the first usefull post about 1*'s I've ever seen.
Now I must add something to this, In -a- new patch weren't they going to add Hunter NPC's spawning at thieves? I think in this way Joymax is 'removing' 1* popping, unless the thief NPC's still spawn, which I don't know.
Anoyne know more on this?

That is a future patch. In it, thieves will spawn NPC hunters which only attack thieves and traders spawn NPC thieves which will no longer attack the general population, only traders and hunters.

But they are also doing away with 1 star trade runs. lol In the not too distant future, there will be no unattackable trades and therefore no need for popping.
