k im sorry but just because pope or w.e. that buys jewels or stupid junk instead of spending it on something doesnt make them belivers. its because of these kind of people that christians and any other acutal true believers that they seem to be people that use donations for their own.
but thats not true. a majority of these people acutal help others. one example is my family

There are numerous experiments out there that do not benefit anyone directly. However, information from these experiments stack up, and eventually they are used by scientists to move on to larger projects. Other experiments even lead to astonishing unexpected results - serendipities. As iGod has pointed out earlier, these experiments can lead to discoveries on alternative energy sources. Science seeks to find information, whether beneficial to you or not.

Yes, it would be great to put all our efforts on hydrogen fuel, pollution reduction, the cure for cancer and AIDS, etc. but this demand is impractical. Scientists are specialized on their own branch of studies. One nuclear physicist, who have studied their field for years, cannot just drop his work and then focus to any of the mentioned causes. That's just one. What about the rest? You also have to keep in mind that we already have people working on these projects, and more.

On a serious note it's really good, but at the same time bad because I was reading about something like this a long time ago. An ounce of anti-matter mixed with dark matter or something like that will exceed the current worlds explosive power. Not trying to rag on the goverment, but we all know what they will want to use something like this for, "Peace"

The question you have to ask is, Is it worth the risk?
I am not sure yet, but we'll see what the future has in store with this.

Yes, but they do they know how the big bang happened? What if it happened, by a chain reaction happening sub atomically, spreading throughout the universe within but a few nanoseconds? We can't know that. They are trying to figure it out. And if they do, then some guy named doctor evil is going to re-create it

Actually I have a fair Idea on it, that's why I was saying why are they doing it if they don't even know how it happened? The chances of anything going wrong are very slim IMO, but The point of it is to find out the truth behind the big bang because they don't know either so no one can right?
