For task manager: http://www.patheticcockroach.com/mpam4/index.php?p=31

For spyware: Ad-aware, a-squared anty-malware, and many others

But your best shot would probably be reformat, beacuse even if cleaning virus your computer may work slow ... or other things :D

I don't know about your comp, but when I got mine it came with a recovery cd and a windows xp cd..If you still have the windows one you should try that, assuming you have all your driver software and such.

It depends; some trojans add and/or change system files, causing troubles. Others just take interfere with programs/...
In the first case: removing the trojan/virus/... will delete the virus but u will have to restore the damaged files yourself.
In the second case: removing the trojan/virus/... will make your computer back in order

An anti-virus AND a spyware-checker should keep ur computer clean. Just remember to update the program and weekly run a scan.

Anti-Virus: AVG (free), Avast (free), Norton (i don't advise this one), McAfee, Panda,...
Anti-spyware: Ad-Aware(very good & free), SpySweeper,... Hitman Pro (automated program that installs 5 or more programs, updates them and then runs a scan)
