GFX cards 8800gtx/9800gx x2

Post by AnemuS »

Well after buying my 8600gt and playing with it for a while, im really dissapointed with the 128bit width gfx cards... my question is, is it even worth upgrading to 9800gx/2 card which is 512mb/512mb with 512bit memory bus width
or the 8800GTX which was leading GFX card and still somewhere on top of high end cards right now,
does the card really that benefit from the 2 memory slots, i mean since it doesnt use the memory (according to the reviews) it uses only 512mb of memory and all it does is adding the 256bit Memory bus width to existent 256bit, which makes it 512bit (if we use simple ariphmetics) but is it really like that?

so whats better 8800gtx with 384bit
or 9800gx 2 512bit

heard many people say its not even worth to spend money on the 9series of the cards right now, but wait for the next generation cards with 8800gtx, and others say to get sli 9800x2 which will quad ur GFX system, and make it monster which will run crysis on at least 45 average fps (which is LOL improvement) and not worth the freaking hell alot of money investment on them at all...

anyways want to hear ur opinions about those cards..

still im not yet sure 9800gx is out yet at all...

btw another card i was thinking about was the 9600gt, but the fact its 600 series which is always the rip off cards and usually are cheap ones for those who doesnt have money or want to spend much on it...
anyways wont mind getting some info from u guys, and if somebody got it , how does it perform in games , like crysis?

btw sorry for any mistakes and that long text as well :P

9 series is code for more video memory. Unless you have a PCI-E 2.0 slot you aren't really gonna see an improvement. You'd do just as well getting an 8800, and you'd probably save tons of money that way too.

No,its not. And what problems?
9800gx2 is much better than than overpriced oldie - 8800gtx. 9800gtx is not very good, in some benches its slower than 8800gtx. Buy a 8800gt, its very cheap and only little bit slower than 8800gtx and 9800gtx. 9600gt isnt bad too.

heres me running a once burn out and now half repaired 7600 >.<

I guess it comes down to how much money you have as well. Your decision would really be altered if you had an unlimited amount of cash or a selective amount.

I did have a 6600 GT, it got burnt out until it was un repairable. I than got and installed a 7600 GT. It lasted about.. a month? before it overheated ( i assume ) and started to not function properly. Though after me getting very pissed off with the dam thing, literally throwing it at my couch a few times.. just putting in the slot various times it is now at the point where it works but everything is displayed with a yellow filter over the top of everything. Frankly i would rather a working 6600 >.<

Here's something to chew on:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php ... card2=474#

The numbers in bold are the faster of the two cards compared. GX2 looks to be the winner despite the 256-bit interface. Of course it will, it's basically two 9x cards in one.

That is comparing the GX2 to a single 8800GTX. SLI'd, the 8x series beats it except for texture fill rate.

Same stream processors per GPU...higher core, memory, and bandwidth, in addition the 9x is a 65nm part while the 8x is a 90 nm part. I'd probably wait to see more performance out of the 9x line.

BTW, who said it's DDR4? I have only seen GDDR3 referenced.
If faith is a crutch, I'm not limping anymore.

Just get like an 8800GT since they are so cheap lately or for a little better performance get 8800GTS 512MB or the 9800GTX(which is what I have). If you were considering the 9800GX2 your much better off to get 2 9800GTX cards and SLI them in either double or tripple

IMO only cards worth getting:

High end - 8800GT
Low end - 7950GT

Nothing else.

8800 GT's are the best price/performance cards right now. I got mine for $225 in November. Now, only 5 months later the price is down to $160-170. Can't be disappointed though, that's how technology works; newer stuff always brings the price down. I've only checked newegg but you might get one cheaper if you look around.

Do you mean an 8800GT or a 9800GTX. If you can finda 8800GT below $180 buy that, or if u want the fastest single gpu card out there get the 9800GTX if u can find for $280 or under. The 9800GTX has MASSIVE overclocking headroom btw, I have one myself I 've tested it. It's a beast of a card :D I play Crysis on very high settings with no AA on 1680x1050 res and it's very playable with the OCed 9800GTX

What I would recommend is either getting the EVGA Akimbo 8800GT or getting SLI XFX Alpha Dog XXX 9600's. Dont get 9800's as they are simply repakaged 88's.

The Akimbo comes with a custom cooler which over comes the cooling issues of the standard cards, however for the same price you can get sli 96's which woul give the same if not slightly better performance.
