After school shock

Post by Snoopy »

One day I was attending school, as usual. It was a Thursday afternoon and I had just finished last period. We were walking home, as we got thirsty, we decided to stop into a corner store. We purchased and paid for our drinks. As we were walking out, this car came flying around the corner, well and truly over the speed limit (50km/h, school zone) The car hit two friends of mine who were on the opposite side of the road. I had just exited the corner store, I rushed over to them, and the woman who was driving the White Ford got out of her car after she had sent them over 50 meters down the road dragging them under, and on her car. She got their blood all over her shirt, she was in shock, but as was everyone else who witnessed the accident.

Quote from the news:

TRIBUTES flowed today for the Gold Coast teenager killed in a horrific accident yesterday when a car mounted the footpath at Labrador and ran down the Year 11 student and his friend.

Jye Strong, 16, was killed and his 15-year-old mate is fighting for his life in Gold Coast Hospital after they were mown down by a 35-year-old female driver who has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The driver will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

Jye died at the scene and his friend was rushed to hospital where he remains last night in the intensive care unit in a critical condition.

It was Jye's first day back at school.

He was reportedly trying to get his life back on track and was starting a school-based apprenticeship.

He had finished for the day when he and his mate began walking towards his Central Street home.

They stopped at a convenience store at the corner of Kumbari Avenue and Bellevue Parade to buy a can of soft drink and had only just started walking north along Kumbari Avenue when they were struck by a white Ford Falcon.

Shopkeeper Smita Thitme said the pair had just been in her shop buying drinks.

"Then I heard a bang. It was about five minutes later."

She ran outside and saw her young customers lying on the ground in front of her shop.

"It was terrible," she said.

She called police.

Witnesses said the car mounted the kerb and crashed through a set of speakers that had been placed on the footpath and then a pole before crashing into the teenagers.

They were carried almost 70m up the road, back to the shop from where they had just come.

Neighbours and an Ozcare nurse who was passing ran to the pair and started frantically administering CPR.

Southport High School principal Rob Stones was also visibly affected by news of the accident.

He choked back tears as he spoke of the two students.

"This is devastating news for the school community," he said.

"We are all full of shock and grief and sadness.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these two boys.

"I'm pretty shaken up myself as you can see.

"Both have been students here since Year 8.

"They're certainly faces and personalities that are well known to me."

He said the school was organising counselling and support for distraught students and teachers.

The driver of the car is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

When she fronted up to court, we all went there and skipped class for the hearing. She was waving to us, blowing us kisses, and giving us the thumbs up. She wasn't doing it in sympathy, she was being rude, and disgusting, and I hope she never comes out of jail.

We were also given walls near the crash site, to graffiti. We took it a step further and did it all over our school, and all over the cement floor near the crash site.

The next few days at school, were extremely hard for everyone, Majority of us didn't attend the classes.

I'm sorry if none of you care about this, but I felt I needed to express it one way or another.

Thanks for your time ^.^

That story reminded me of an incident that happened not long ago to someone I know from school. He was running to his bus stop across a busy street and one of the teachers at our school ran a red light and hit him. He did a did a back flip over the entire car an landed on the street just in front of another car. Amazingly he was OK, but he did hav some hip pains and im pretty sure he broke his leg. When it happened I thought for sure he was dead but he just lied there for a moment, got up, and walked to the bus stop. The teacher was like freakin out and was gunna call an ambulance, but he said that he didnt need one, even though about half way through the day he went home cause of his injures. Enough about me though, it must hav been really scary for u to witness such a thing, and im sure ur really sad. I hope u feel better soon cause it really such when ur down in the dumps like that, but at least u will hav ur other friends to express ur grief with and im sure they will help u through it. As for he lady that hit him, she seems like a real bitch, I hope she stays in jail for a while too. Hope u feel better.

I hope we reach the age of quantum computers soon the cars can react to accident on their own.
In such cases you rly begin asking what is more dangerous: the driver or the car :(

+1

Anyway, she's in court now already. In the Netherlands it would take months before she'd be in court.

Wow shocking story :(

reminds me of a story of my own:
Me and my friend were on the lunch break at school and we decided to go to my friend's house, he lives about 7 minutes away by walk.
We got off the school teritory and saw a flat platfotm eight-teen wheeler. My friend and I though: lets jump on it, its going to take us faster to ur place (The truck was slowing down for the stop sign).
We both ran towards it and my friend jumped on it, i was about to jump too when i saw him loose his balance and fall in the hole between the wheels, of course i didnt jump.
He rolled under the truck for a good 30-40 feet.
I was scared to hell that my friend was going to die.
He only suffered ripped hair from his head, a sprained shoulder and some really bad bruises, but he was alive.
The funny thing is that the first thing he said after rolling under the truck is: we should've filmed this !!!

I uploaded a pic so that you can all see, he fell where i circled and put an arrow (But on that picture the hole is covered with a plate of metal, probly to prevent such accidents :P)

Well I seen other threads titled similarly. This inspired to share one of my stories, Nothing much happens here in Australia, and when something does it' always is big or blown out or proportion.

No schoolyard shootings, no drive-by's etc.

Geeze man this happened right infront of you? Sorry to hear bout the news mate.

The school zone speed limit up in the Gold Coast is 50kmh? In Melbourne it's 40kmh.

She will hopefully get the book slammed in her face, though in Australia what does that mean these days?

I hope the sadness and pain comes to a quick healing for you and your community.

Well it wasn't exactly 'right' out side the school, it was more a suburban residential area, which the speedlimit is 50km/h, schoolzones here are 40km/h.

Very true, She will probably get a slap on the wrist.

But the thing is, she now has tucked under her belt, two charged of dangerous driving causing death, because the other guy died in Hospital.

Im really sorry to hear about your loss. My friends brother died in a car accident last year, a head on collision. It took a long time of grieving to overcome it so i know your pain.

Also the speed limit for school zones is 50kmh? in nsw its 40...
