cool. thanks again, dom, guys.
n I use American Crew, but I don't smell anything? unless you're referring to their Tea Mint washing line or whatever it is.(:

HOLLA - how much do one of those cost? n I know its AC, but I've never seen barbers sell pomade before. hell, I've never even heard of pomade until now. do they usually stock them?

High-end places usually make their rent and utilities off of product sales alone, so normally all hairdressers have a lot of stuff for offer. Just make sure you're getting something right for you, and not just paying for someone else's comission.

It's like 15 bucks for the 3.5oz. I've been using it for months though. I only need like a a little on my finger, rub it inbetween my palms then go through my hair and it works fine.

oh, alright. I thought it'd be something wildly expensive. fifteen dollars is less than my hair gel costs.
on another note, HOLLA, I've always wondered what you look like. tbh with you, when I think of you, I always think of an emo kid, haha(:

here's a few pictures I just took.
end of the day, my hair looks like a mess. the front is a bit messy too since I just washed my face and water got all over it.

guh, I've never liked my hair. I haven't been able to do ANYTHING with it since the day I was born. maybe getting that pomade stuff will help, though.
and yeah, that's white hair I got.

Dude, that hair is perfect for styling. You just need to get your sides trimmed until the hair on the top is too long to support product, if that happens it will pull the hair down and make it flat from its weight. (for thin hair)

Just bought some quality stuff, and litterally just rub your head with it. You'll work it in and get used to moving it, and you'll find something messy that suits you.

While were on it, here's mine with nothing in it after showering/drying.

awesome. :]

quick question, though, dom. I didn't get this part:

dom wrote:You just need to get your sides trimmed until the hair on the top is too long to support product, if that happens it will pull the hair down and make it flat from its weight. (for thin hair)

what happens to my hair is that it grows out at the same speed in all directions. so its like, the hair on the sides is always only a little shorter than the hair on the top of my head, so I gotta tame it down with gel alot of the times. and then what happens then is the sides of my hair starts looking crackly.
I wish I could just ask them to shave away the hair on the sides of my head but leave the hair on the top longer. but its like, they don't know how to or something, or it doesn't work. can't they shave it so it blends in? short hair on the sides but long hair on the top, without looking like a chili bowl haircut? iah, its always some Vietnamese lady or man that can't speak English that cuts my hair, haha.

LOL When I was small I used to go to a vietnamese place downtown, and she'd talk with her sister and friends on the phone while cutting my hair. People would randomly walk in and eat, it was like barbershop the movie but vietnamese version.

My hair does the same, once or twice a year I shave my head so I can moisturize the skin; because i'm racially mixed, my skin has problems with weather. What I do then is I get my sides cut, like tapered, and I leave the top the same length. Then once it grows too long I get it cut normally. What i'm saying is your hair doesn't look super long, or long enough to go for a normal haircut. Try getting your sides cut shorter and only trimming a tiny bit off the top.

OH, another thing too, my hair is REALLY thin, and I assume yours is the same, when I put stuff in it and style it you can see my scalp like i'm balding. To fix that make sure your hairstylist texturizes your hair a lot; you can see in my pic with nothing in it how messy it looks, it's so you can't see my scalp when I have stuff in it.

gotcha, and sounds great. since you're such an expert at this, dr. dom, how long do you think my hair could get before I couldn't style it anymore? you see how long it is now in the pictures - probably a little bit over an inch, and its getting hard already. and I can't just dump on more gel because then it just looks ridiculously hard. can't wait to get my hands on some of that pomade stuff and try it out. :]

just so I don't sound stupid tomorrow - is it pomade, as in, po-made, or pah-made?

Depends where you live. It's stolen from the french word pommade, because it used to be made with apples (apple = pomme).

So to pronounce it properly it would be "puh'm-mad" (mad like angry), but english people sometimes mispronounce it "puh'm-aid" (like first-aid)

Haha, and yeah fena +1 to doms comment. Get your hair texturized. That's what I do with mine. Also, if you find a picture of what hair style you want will help next time you get your haircut. Thats what I ended up doing, gave them a visual to go by.

oh yah, I took French back in Middle School for two years. I remember pomme! apple juice was jus d'pomme, wasn't it? or jus de pomme. something like that.
but if people here pronounce it puh-maid, than I guess that's what I'll do, hah. so its puh and not po. got it.

No AnF?

and what do you mean by texturized?

thanks again, guys! (:

(thing is, most of the times I go to Great Clips to get my hair cut. very occasionally I'll go to a stylist, but I jsut get my hair cut the same way. I'd feel pretty awkward handing them a picture and asking them to cut it like that in front of everybody)

Texturize just adds layers to your hair. It will help with your problem of having thin hair. It will make it appear thicker I suppose you could say. It's easier to style too. I think I have a few AnF things. I have a lot of brands, I just listed a few off the top of my head.
EDIT: There's nothing to feel awkward about. Honestly, if you want your hair to look a certain way, then you will do it. Just trying to paint a picture in their head of what you want is harder then if you have something for them to go by. People do it all the time, just go in with a small picture and tell them you want it to look similar to that. It just gives them a reference point.

When I went to my hairdresser for the first time I asked him what he thought. He said to just sit back and let him do his artistry. Been going to the same guy since. Maybe just ask, they'll let you know.

alright. I just got back from the haircutter.

what happened was, at the beginning, it was another Asian lady, and she couldn't speak English. I was like, fk, she's going to give me a horrible haircut. so like, two minutes in, she's like, "You Chinese?" I'm like, "yeah." she's like, "speak Mandarin?" I tell her yes.
just my luck. she can speak Mandarin. so I tell her what I want done. she does it. (:

she first shaved off the hair on the sides of my head - enough so that it looks short, but natural. then she took some little thing and scraped it through my hair and she said she was thinning it? I don't know why she would do that, considering how thin my hair already is, but okay.
shaved here and there, snipped here and there. then washed and shampoo'd my hair (lol), and then smeared pomade all over it.

I think it looks awesome. :] but she smeared it on while my hair was still kinda wet, and she told me that normally, I have to put it on dry hair to make it work.

then I bought the exact same American Crew pomade in HOLLA's picture. cost me 26.50$.

in total, cost me 50-something dollars. Plano. :(

You can use a razor, and texturize the hair that way as well. It's different but still works. Well lets see that fresh new cut :)

hahahaha, Hershey and his Mexican gel.

okay, question:
how do I use this.

looks like this:
Image

how much do I use? its sorta hard to the touch so how do I get it out? mix it with water and then use it, or just apply directly?

just scoop it right out of the jar, about the size of a quarter, rub it between your hands and apply. make sure your hair and hands are dry. water will **** it up!

awesome. thanks, agent.
tbh, this shit better last me for a few months. don't know how long its going to last if I scoop the size of a quarter every day, though. looks like this tub only has three dollars in it.

plus, gotta redo it every single day after wrestling. the headgear messes up anything I did in the morning.

i think you may have overpaid. hell, a quarter size might be too much for you. you wont know until you try it. you can get that shit at any walgreens or supermarket just so you know! that will def not last you a few months, might not even last you a month!

Lol yeah I would just leave it in for a few days until it would naturally start coming out and then I'd wash taht sh1t. No point in wasting 5 hours in th e shower every damn day taking that sh1t out.
Man my pillow was all greasy n sh1t. Nasty assed sh1t.

Looking back at that time I shoulda just gotten mangled. Not even fkin around.
