i wanna build a new computer

Post by blackfalcon »

so i been having a lot of problems with my computer lately so i want to build a new one. i can spend between $500-$1200 on it. so i would like to know what i should put in it. i would like to know:

CPU
VideoCard
RAM

and all the other stuff. so if someone could tell me what things to get i would be really happy :) and if you could tell me about how much it would cost

my builds are up in the 1,500+ range. But ck out this web site, ibuypower.com
these are made for gaming, and if you pick a PC, you can customize everything. They got weekly specials on some built PCs.

Though i like to go out and buy the parts myself on ebay or newegg.com

What games do you want to play?

Ram; Be sure to have 2-3Gig ram.
VideoCard; I would go for Nvidea GeForce 8800GTS, but it's kinda expensive..
CPU; Dunno, dont know much about them.

E6750 for a processor is a sweet spot, less you can find a E8400, ordered mine a few days ago.

You're gonna want:
-2-3ghz or faster
-2-4GB DDR2 (DDR3 is still in the beta so it runs slower than DDR2, but if you can wait it out...get the DDR3)
-Core2 Quad (most technology will be switching over to Core 2 Quad so if you wanna stay ahead of the game, get this...Core 2 duo is fine as well though)
-I would recommend a 8800 GT or 8800 GTS....getting them dual would be nice too, but that's usually above your price range

Site you want to visit:
-Try newegg.com
-Best Buy does have some good computers for a pretty penny (usually 50-100 bucks more), but it saves the 4-5 day wait from online sites
-Circuit city- unlike Best Buy, they do have iBUYPOWER computers

Recommended brands:
-Cyberpower PC (specially made for gaming)
-iBUYPOWER PC (specially made for gaming)
-HP
eCSRO:
ilshootli- 81
Fembria:
iContagious - 81

ZSZC:
iPewPewUQQ - 63 Bower

Iris :
Star_L1ght - 59 Rogue/Warrior

Venus:
TR_ousers 57 Rogue/Bard

Army surplus down here+ncix.com: some random asus + 6000+ = 159,99; random 600 watt power supply and gaming case = 59,99; you can find ram online; kingston pc2-4200 value ram = $25/gb ($50); EVGA 8800gt 512mb 1.8 mhz ddr3 = $200; recycle cd-rom, floppy, and harddrive from old computer

=$470 before taxes, ~500 before taxes including random acessories

So, for $500 before taxes a 6000+ 2gb ram 8800gt is buildable, not a supercomputer but great for amateur/hobby gaming. I'm sure if you look around your town there's some obscure shop that sells stuff really cheap, here it's the army surplus.

8800GT has the best price/performance ratio, going SLI or going with any other model will result in each dollar not counting as much; the 10-15 extra fps is not worth the extra $100-300

ROFL

Dont even think to get DD3, will cost you 1/3 of your budget. Instead get some 4GB DDR2. I suggest you go for Intel, its way better than AMD at the moment. The E6750 should be fine. If you want to go gaming Nvidia is for you. Its memory, or if it can run DirectX10 natively its your choice. If you want a good advice, get a good screen. Get a 22" TFT widescreen with a nice contrast should be in your budget too. I highly recommend it.

That only works if you're comparing certain lineups against eachother. Should he find a good deal on a CPU, making the $worth more with AMD than with Intel, he shouldn't go with Intel just because their new processors are better.

And it's not like CPUs retroactively upgrade themselves on store shelves depending on who's winning the CPU war.

if your going to have over 4 gigs of ram your going to have to pay more for the OS . and i would suggest getting XP, vista is still pretty buggy and its not much better the XP (some consider it worse).

and i really wouldn't suggest building a computer if this is the first time you've built one as the are a lot of places you can mess up.

If she shouldn't build a PC because it's his first one, when will he have the chance to ever build one?

It's not rocket science, you look at the motherboard's diagram and plug in the stuff that fit into the right sockets. The most difficult part of building my first pc was not getting those damn styrofoam things all over the place.

I meant Intel processors perform better in the sense that comparing an AMD X2 3.00GHz with the Intel E6850 3.0GHz, the Intel one performs way better. The AMD 3.0GHz one can be compared with an Intel 2.4GHz which both have similar performance and price. Now the decision depends on blackfalcon. Personally i built a very nice PC and got the 3GHz Intel one, because i want the PC to last a couple of years and dont want to upgrade it often.

Not when you're hunting for deals, which everyone should be doing when building a PC.

Actually with 4+ gigs Vista runs rather well. Not hard to build one, built my first when i was 12. Only thing i had a problem with was connecting the pins to the header due to my big fingers.

it's pretty easy to mess up though, especially with pretty expensive parts. (i've had nightmares about messing up the CPU)

im not saying vista doesn't run well, it's just that atm it's useless to use due to there being no REAL useful programs that are vista dependant, and you run into problems with games.

Unreal Engine 3 and anti aliasing = sex. You think that shit Crysis looks good, wait till you see mind blowing graphics in 16x. Shit will look better than promo screenshots. Plus future games will eventually all run and require DX10.

use a 7950GT, 8800GT or use your onboard graphics until you can afford one or the other.

Those two cards offer best value for price. The 7950GT is a very viable choice, solid card @ cheap price.

Hello there, well recently i had problems with my computer too so i bought a new one, its not a best one of cource tho could be best price/performance pick :p

intel core2duo 6750 2.66ghz
Geforce Palit 8600gt super 1gb (still dont know how its performing in heavy games as crysis and such probably gonna suck with it :P) but oh well its one of the cheapest cards around with "enough" power for me :) getting such a card after radeon 9550 makes u think u got the best computer in the world xD
standard DDR2 800mhz 2gb memory
500w power supply
250gb sata harddrive 7200rpm
asus p5kpl motherboard
+2 zalman coolers
all this for only 800$ so u can improve the video card if u wish :) for something like 8800gt/x ultra they are pretty much cool cards that will play Crysis on good fps :p(all depends on how much gamer u r )
