Re: How long would it take me to walk ~10-12 miles?
Grandpa gets a far away look in his eye. He takes a deep breath...
"Well, back in my day... and yes, they had cars then... we were all hoping for the Olympic Runners to break the Four (4) Minute Mile. Nobody had done it. That's an average of 20 miles per hour maintained for a full mile, youngster. In my senior year of high school we had a large board in the gym with the names of everybody who held the current records. How many push-ups total or sit-ups (people could be excused from all their other classes once a year to try to set a new record and do sit-ups all day long) and once I got my name up there for the most number of "dips".
It took a lot of upper body strength on the parallel bars and I was proud, you bet'cha! I did 32 dips, it was the only record that I ever held. But then Don Engle (yep, I still remember his name) saw that somebody had broken his old record and the very next day he did 37!!!
He was in gymnastics and he also broke a couple of his "old" records the same day. One of which was the record for the fastest mile. 4 Minutes and 51 seconds. I'm not positive of that time but purty sure.
But I digress...
Walking vs. Running: Some might not know the difference. Technically one is walking if you have placed one foot to the ground before you lift another. You are "running" if there are moments when both feet are off the ground and you have forward velocity. This of course, presumes we are speaking of human walking speeds. The difference in walking vs running for frogs for instance... wait... that's a different subject. Nevermind, if you're interested here's a LINK: Walking and Running in the Red-Legged Running Frog .
Given an average walking speed of three (4) to four (3) miles per hour, it would take between 2 and 1/2 to 4 hours to walk ~10-12 miles. It could take me 2 days if Don Engle's house was on the way. But that's a different subject.
-Grandpa
PS. Bastet? May I ask what the pictogram in your sig means?
My guess: A bird in the hand and a football with a paddle is worth two in the grass (j/k)

Hey f*****s
My name is John, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded, no-lifes who spend every second of their day looking at stupid ass pictures. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever been laid? I mean, I guess it's fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take it to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to pictures in people's sigs.
Don't be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I'm pretty much perfect. I was captain of the footbal team, and starter on my basketball team. What sports do you play, other than "sit on your ass and try to log in to a game all day"? I also get straight A's, and have a banging hot girlfriend (She just blew me; sh1t was SO cash). You are all f*****s who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.
Here's me, my b1tch, and my four popped collars:

You REALLY don't want to ask... well, maybe you do, but you REALLY, REALLY don't want to hear [my scary stories]. Let's just say that if the biggest surprise your body has given you so far is, "Oh! Look! I can grow hair in places other than my head!" Be thankful.agent420 wrote:Grandpa wrote:Grandpa gets a far away look in his eye. He takes a deep breath...
