Earthquakes affect a large area, strongest in the epicenter then spiraling outwards, 10miles would of made little to no difference.
Especially with a Shallow Focus, now. It really depends on England's general rock makeup, whether it is soft rock, posing little resistance to the primary and secondary waves, so that when they emanate from the focus, little power is lost over greater distances.
