Re: New Camera?
Kinda depends on your wishes.
I own a Sony DSC-F1, Fujifilm Finepix A205S and an Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom. Even though the Sony is really old, I love how it displays colors. I use the Fujifilm mainly for blogging and when I want to take pictures at places that have a high risk of damaging my camera, since the Olympus (the best camera I got) is too expensive to take the risk.
For professional photo's, I always choose for the Olympus, and if that's the level you want to take your photo's to, I recommend everyone an Olympus.

A few years ago I bought a $200,- Olympus camera, it wasn't very good : \
It used batteries as a power source, and after a few months the camera would whine about having empty batteries even if the batteries were fully loaded. And Im sure the problem wasn't the batteries..
The colours and quality weren't too good either, compared to other camera's of the same price.
Ofcourse this wasn't a camera for professional use but for $200,- I felt quite ripped off :S

dslr or point and shoot?
If you are looking for a cheap, good entry level camera you cant go wrong with a nikon d50. Can roughly find a full d50 kit on ebay for around 500
