If you want to have a break from SRO then I suggest you have a go with NETHACK. It’s a rogue-like game and even more frustrating then SRO.

If you’re a ´graphics addict´ than this game will be not your cup of tea. It’s ASCII, although you can spice it a bit up with an additional tiles-file.

And it’s soooooooo addictive……..

The object of the game is to ascend your character into a god. How long this will take i really don’t know. I never ever got close. Seriously, be prepared to die a lot (through your own fault or through the games evil, maniacal artificial intelligence) And when you die, well you’ll have to restart from scratch.

The message ´Do you want your possesions identified´ caused a lot of swearing, I can tell you.

But it’s soooooooooo addictive………

Yes, you can die from a lack of food, yes you die from kicking repeatedly a door, yes you can die from monsters which weren’t there a moment before in that room.

Yes, you’ll start with a pet. Treat it nice or else………….

I’ve once made it to the Medusa level but I forgot to wear a blindfold … How the hell should I know that Medusa was waiting behind that door?? Heck, I didn't even know that I would encounter Medusa. And so I turned into stone…. Do you want your possesions identified?

Another time my precious, carefully build up, barbarian with it's shiny white blessed armour, 2 handed sword was beating monsters as if they were flies.... step.... trap.... poisoned spikes... Do you want your possesions identified? Fück

My Wizard found once a Death Ray Wand. Instant death for the opponent but also for my Wizard as the ray bounced back... Do you want your possesions identified? Fück again

There are several characters with wich you can start, ranging from Babarian to Tourist. You can get help from your god so praying may help (make sure you use the right altar, or your god will be pissed with you praying to another god)

Be carefull with items, they can be cursed but they can also be blessed. Try to identify the item before wearing.

Be carefull with what you eat. You can eat monsters which you have slain but some might give you a burning stomach, others might give you an extra attribute (poison resistance for example). But you’ll not known before you try it. And probably die and thus will know the next time.

All in all it’s sooooooooooo addictive………..

Start playing now and post your deaths or achievements here. We could even start a competition where everyone starts with the same char and see who will get the most points.
