The Red Scare visits us.

Post by Avalanche »

This forum has turned into the McCarthy Era (for you people who don't know what that era was, wikipedia it). Everyone is flaming each other, accusing each other, snitching on their own friends. Basically people are snitching their neighbors, because they want to survive while others perish.

Not saying the mod/admin team are power tripping, but they have to ban people because the PEOPLE of SRF are getting out of hand, not them. People blame the mods, but it is NOT them, it is people like YOU.

before that section was created, there were no problems, there were no flames at this caliber, there wasnt as much "new acc making" as it is now. Theres no denying it, srf is truely taken a turn for the worst

^ Written not by me, but another respected/legit member of this forum and the community. This forum was made for good, but has been abused, turning it into MAJOR flame fest.

The only way to settle this and get rid of bots from this forum is NOT an open forum, but a private submission form. OBVIOUSLY this community cannot handle these open debates, causing more controversy than bots lurking these forums pretending to be legits.

I certainly don't think this is going to be "the fall of SRF", but it's going to be interesting to see how things look once the worst of it is over.

This section's been open for how long again? Two days?

Yes, that is sufficient time to tell whether or not it'll be the end of this forum. I agree.

I had thought about this as well. They should definitely make it private, or at least restricted to the accusing and accused parties. Any other posts should be deleted heh.

I'd go along with that.

I think too much transparency makes everything unmanageable. I like the idea of a private submission forum. All the bans could be posted after reviewing evidence, with a short paragraph summary of the offense (and relevant bits of evidence). This would allow mods to discuss potential bans without starting long multipage discussions that quickly go off-topic.

There's a nice article on fortuitous that changed the way I thought about this stuff.

Reich is better
Good points of reich:
* botshevik is an awesome new word
* I've already made lots of nazi images and its taken me a while, I wanna be able to use them all.
<<No you won't - MrBow>>
* Nazi regime no longer exists, while communists still do
* Everyone knows about the Third Reich, its not just an American thing
* Man with tooth brush moustache > american demagogue
* We can use an extensive Nazi vocab
<<No you won't x2 - MrBow>>
* I can use the umlaut if we take the Third Reich

McCarthy
* Well its not as horrifying

That is a perfect add-on to the private submission, that would solve a lot of controversy between members.

Same analogy to the 1st & 2nd World War. Why make war if anything can be resolved with peace?

Who knows the exposed botter forum is turning all forums into bot discussion. 3 days they've spread even in the OT lounge in a week SRF will be renamed.

I honestly hope that this subforum helps, but I can definitely see the 'Crucible' effect goin on in here. I saw it months ago, if you look in my post history, I have said it many times. Bot threads are a problem that have plagued srf since the very beginning, and this is just the natural evolution of it. At least now they have centralized a flame section of the forum so that it isn't as random as before.

I agree with AvAlAnChE1 in that they should make it a private submission over a public flame forum, simply because of the chaos this seems to have already provoked. To open a forum just so that people could tattle on people that they suspect to be 'cheating' brings out the worst in people. Also, to expect botters to outright tattle on themselves and be banned instantly is kind of lame. I don't support botting at all, but I don't think that people that have been a part of the community this long, and have helped others as much as some have, should be banned simply because they decided to cheat in an online game.

Sure the legits feel slighted because Joymax won't do anything about botters, but then you have to remember that those legits are playing a game where the service sucks. I think that all you legits should simply move to a game where they care about service (ie. WoW), and stop paying for or playing a game where they obviously don't care about it. If you really care so much about service, and can seem to complain so frequently about it, then why stick with a company that doesn't care so much about it?

Anyways, my point is, botters are obviously a bad thing, but making a thread dedicated to flaming them is not the answer. Even banning them from this forum won't stop them from botting, and won't make a true impact on anyone, since it is so easy to just make a new account. Flame away at me if you want, but I don't think that people like Fly or Nightbloom who have had such an impact on the community, but also have been found to be botters, should be banned. Just my $.02.

I agree with most of that. But, botters are botters. If SRF doesn't ban them, they will be just like joymax, making other legit people to think it is OKAY to bot.

For the open forum, it is a good concept, but under these circumstances, it has done more negative than it should of. It is full fledged war out in there, making more and more disdain between members.

I disagree with the open forum policy 100%. It is a way for people to continue to scapegoat a particular group of people. It is just like any other part of human history, we blame things on a common denominator, and in this case it is people who cheat on games. Sure, they don't sit and spend as much time on the game as legits do, but I don't see you getting pissed off at a friend who cheats on GTA.

I think that an open forum does nothing more then brings the worst out in people. Besides, say you are "proven" to be illegit with screen shots and such, how would you go about disproving it? It gives anyone the authority to say so and so is botting and should be banned, simply because they didn't give them 10k the night before.

That is exactly what the red scare was, you cannot prove you are innocent!

As for the cheating in other games, it is looked down upon by everyone. Cheating in GTA is different, because it doesn't effect other people. That is a single player game. This is a multiplayer game, and I'm sure if you hacked or cheated on a CS game steam would ban your ass instantly.

proof if innicence can definitely be offered. if the banned has friends here, he/she can have them post it, or let's be honest, it's not that hard to create a new account on a proxy and PM me the info needed. if the evidence is at least as strong as that which damned them, it will definitely be put forth to the mod team for review.

also. i dunno if you noticed, but there has been only two new threads in that section in the last two days. hardly a red scare now, is it? there was less than a week of insanity. now it has calmed. 20-30 bots were banned. some of them were good members, some of them were my friends; that's regrettable, to be sure. but many of them exhibited the same type of attitude that causes legits to hate bots in-game: a smug superiority toward legits.

i am not sorry.

Ok, lets play through a scenario. Player1 and Player2 are best buddies. They like to see one another in pvp to test each other's powers, right? Well, say that Player1 has a natural leveling advantage over Player2 and quickly gets to a higher level. Player2 is put off, and decides to cheat to keep up. Ultimately, both players make it to the cap, and continue to pvp. Why should Player1 feel slighted simply because he didn't use the same methods to get to where he is as Player2?

Say, Player2 has a job, and pays for a bot card. He literally goes out and works for the money to pay for everything he has in game. Player1 spends 90% of his time playing the game, and using mom's cc to get gold tickets. How can you say that Player2 worked any less hard for his character then Player1, if he physically worked for it instead of pressing a combination of 3 buttons and using mom's money?

Note, that is all beside the point, and just shows a point that I would like to prove, that botters, whether they are good or bad, aren't all just lazy. They for-go the grind, for better parts of the game.

Anyways, cheating on one game vs another should be considered the same. Cheating in any situation should be considered bad, shouldn't it? Why is it that SRF doesn't crack down on gold buyers? Isn't that cheating? I would consider someone who bots less of a threat then someone who buys gold. I mean, when they cap, they have a full sosun set, yet, you see them still on the forums. They complain because they can't get their sosun set to +5 or more, and no one seems to ban them.

Ultimately, it comes down to this whole thing being useless talking. I could argue my points till I am blue in the face, but really, where would it go? Someone who disagrees can say that I bot, and boom, I'm banned, right? How can anyone but the player truly know if someone else is botting without sitting at the computer and watching? I know when I was grinding, I noticed I moved in a similar fashion to bots, and was called a bot several times. I kinda laughed it off and continued with what I was doing. This new forum is nothing more then a flame forum set up to pit one person's word against another, with mods (who really can't prove that the target has botted or not), banning indiscriminately.
