If its a linear function, than it means for every x-value, the y-value increases steadily, as opposed to exponentially. Meaning, if you solve it out, each time the x-value in the left box increases by four, you see the y-value increase by two. That would give a a value of 7.
On the right box, you see that each time the x-value increases by 5, the y-value increases by 1. That would give b a value of 5.

So a-b would give you 7-5, which equals 2, or C.
Does that make any sense?
i makes but in the second one ,x increases by *2 not 5 and i got the same answer but its wrong the answer key said its 4 not 2

On the second one, t increases by 5.
Do you see?
5 // 4 10 // 5 15 // 6 20 // 7
The answer key is wrong, lal.
if thats so then thanks cuz i answer 2 and i was mad cuz of the answer key
For SAT prep, I recommend only using books published by the College Board. I found that the third party books I bought (Sparknotes I think) had many errors in the answer key. The College Board ones are usually made up of old tests, so the answers are 99% correct.
the answer is 2.. If u follow the patter from the right u will solve the question..

f(x)=mx+b solving m change of y (y2-y1) over change of x (x2-x1)
5-9 = -4 4-12 = -8 = 4/8=1/2 m=1/2
solving b y=mx+b 5=1/2(4)+b 5=2+b 3=b
f(x)=y=1/2x+3
find slope formula for g(z)...
g(z)=mx+b solving m change of y (y2-y1) over change of x (x2-x1)
4-7 = -3 5-20 = -15 = 3/15=1/5 m=1/5
solving b y=mx+b 7=1/5(20)+b 7=4+b 3=b
g(z)=y=1/5z+3
results
first is f(x)=y=1/2x+3 second is g(z)=y=1/5z+3
first x is 8, solve for y [f(x)=f(8)] second z is 10, solve for y [g(z)=g(10)
DA FIRST y=1/2(8)+3 y=4+3 y=7
DA SECOND y=1/5(10)+3 y=2+3 y=5
a-b is f(x)-g(z) f(8)-g(10) 7-5 Answer=2
i'm not playing smart or anything but do u really need this formula? i mean u only need to look at the pattern from the right table and u'll get the missing numbers.
