How to get my PC quiet?
So my PC is like a Farking vacuumcleaner.
It makes a shitload of noise. When I play games it's NP cause I have music on and other sounds so I don't hear it, but otherwise this thing just makes so much noise it's just scary.
So how do I turn this shit down? Is this a heatproblem and should I place more fans, replace parts?

haha mine too. When I am awake and playing it, I don't care about the sound, but when I sleep and am stalling, it is sooooooo noisy!

Re: How to get my PC quiet?
I got a new GFX card with artic cooling, it's good enough to cool down my whole case and now my fans barely run. The only way I can tell if it's on (when my monitor is off: torrenting, etc.) is by the lights.
My PC makes absolutely no noise, i'll make a youtube video.

Re: How to get my PC quiet?
I had a noisy piece of shiet 7 years ago. Now I got me an Antec Ninehundred for a case
Anyway, to quiet your vaccum cleaner, put it on top of a soft surface (unless you got carpet) like an old mousepad. Why? Because the object will absorb the vibrations generated by all those components. This is a cheap and effortless way.
I found out that the fans aren't really the problem, unless they are running at high speeds. Actually they may be, depending on how many you have and what components you have. For...

Re: How to get my PC quiet?
...example, if you have godlike specifications and only one 80mm and no water cooling, your're ought to get owned. Fan size affects the cooling too. Bigger is better because a 200mm fan spinning slow could generate equal or greater wind to a 80mm fan at a higher speed. This is also more quiet and energy efficient.
Another way is to get water cooling which is better temperature-wise and is silent. However it costs a lot more and takes up a lot of space (not reccomended for miniature PCs). Its also meaner...

Re: How to get my PC quiet?
Question: Has your PC made the noise since day one?
If so the above replies are fine - you may want to open your box up and run it with your ear close so you can tell exactly where the noise is coming from and go from there. Be careful because if you Vincent Van Gogh yourself the blood may short out the circuits.
Noise like you describe typically originates from the CPU fan but it could also be Power Supply, or your Hard Drive could be failing (does it change in frequency and tone as your comp starts up? Is it constant or infrequent? -From your description it's prob not your HD, but just thought I'd ask). It could even be your fan mounts. If it has only recently started getting worse it's probably a bearing going bad and would indicate a more urgent problem. So 'best case' would be that the vacuumcleaner sound has been there since day one.
You asked, "Is it a heat problem?"
Perhaps your motherboard came with a utility that can be run to show the internal temp? Most will tell the speeds of your various fans as well. I don't have links for aftermarket utilities on hand, but can google it if you need me to.
Reminds me of the time I was late to work and my car started acting up. The sound would only start when I got about like 20MPH or so and it would increase in pitch as I drove faster. Like I said, I was late for work but I didn't want to go the distance at a snail's pace so I pulled over. It wasn't the transmission because the whining would get louder no matter what gear I was in.
I looked around and checked under the car. It was a hatchback and I found the problem in my spare tire, mounted under the trunk.
My kitten had crawled under and found herself a warm place. She was just scared, poor thing, and her panic was loud enough to call my attention. Needless to say, I was late for work that day.
Noises aren't always what they seem.

No, Granps has just bothered to actually learn about a computer instead of just mindlessly playing video games and using internet browsers, but when a problem comes along, rely on others to fix it for you.

god i love gramps
i think that sums up so much. Hes like syllana V2
Ad if you want noisy, you should listen to my first pc. An old 98 machine, 128 ram, 500 mhz processor ( i think, probably not exact ) .. when i use to play games on it back in the day it howled like a motherbitch.
Ironically its my only ever pc that has never had a hardware failure after 11 years of having it.. weird.

So is there any problem exploiting the wisdom of others?
I'm sure Grandpa doesn't know everything himself as well and will ask for help too.
You on the other hand know everything yourself, right?
