how do u fix a computer/monitor if....

Post by crazyskwrls »

the windows XP is deleted and the repair cd wont work?

Here is the story, yesterday my dad was using my computer for some reason and he downloaded this program that contained a trojan virus and every time i try to turn my computer on it says fatal error and shuts off.
so my dad who is a software engineer thinks he knows alot about computers says oh lets just reintall windows again and we will do it the way so we dont have to backup everything. so i was like okay... we got out the cd it had 3 choices

delete old xp and install a new one
make a new folder and install int
exit

so we choose the first option and when we started installing the xp it cant not find any of the .dll stuff so we tried again and again no luck...

anyone wanna help me?

PS i'm using his new laptop which is like 5x better than my old computer but i think i lost everyting on my old computer

idunno what you mean by repair CD, but insert your regular XP cd, boot from the cd then delete your partition, then reinstall windows., don't just reinstall it.
if you did that and you still can't install it then your cd is corrupt.

Try downloading a copy of a LiveCD version of a Linux distro. (I recommend Ubuntu) It's an operating system but it doesn't actually install- more like a test drive or to check your computer if anything went wrong. You can use the LiveCD to check your hard drives or back up anything important. After you've backed everything up you can begin reinstalling Windows. Also, if you do not have drivers for your computer, I suggest also downloading them beforehand.

Ubuntu LiveCD

+1

That's the best way IMO. Lots of people don't know about this, but it works wonders! My dad taught me and when our last hard drive took a turn for the worse he just put in Ubuntu and backed up the files that we still needed.

because the xp disk you borrowed didnt have your graffics driver so you got to install yours and update it

EDIT: or you have to install the graffic card if you installed a graffics card meaning like you pulg your monitor not near the keyboard and mouse ports or something like that
