SRF's Tf2 thread.

Post by skulldiver »

Welcome to SRF's team fortress 2, aka tf2, thread.

Team fortress ? WTH is that?
Well my little friend, it's good that you ask.
Tf2, is a sequel to team fortress, made by valve.
It's a teambased shooter, with 9 unique classes, split up in ; offensive, defensive, support.
Now don't think a class that lies in the offensive group can't defend, or vica versa, because they can.

Wait...classes?
That's right, like WoW, Gw or an random rpg, team fortress 2 features classes.

A quick highlight.

Offsense
Scout
Image
'The bat outta hel.'
Bio : A New Yorker and assumedly a huge baseball fan, he always carries his trusty aluminium baseball bat. He likes to keep count of how many heads he has bashed in.

The scout is, as they call it, the twich class of tf2.
His high speed, combined with his double jump make him an excellent flagrunner, or a controlpoint capturer. when capturing control points, a scout counts for two.
However, he has the lowest hp of all the classes.

Armed with:
-Scattergun
-Pistol
-Aliminium baseball bat

Soldier
Image
"Old reliable."

Bio: Though he wanted desperately to fight in World War 2, the Soldier was rejected from every branch of the U.S. military. Undaunted, he bought his own ticket to Europe. After arriving and finally locating Poland, the Soldier taught himself how to load and fire a variety of weapons before embarking on a Nazi killing spree for which he was awarded several medals that he designed and made himself. His rampage ended immediately upon hearing about the end of the war in 1949. He speaks with an American Mid-Western drawl reminiscent of the stereotypical drill sergeant.

The soldier is the jack of all trades class.
He has the second highest hp in the game, has a powerfull weapon.
However, he walks quite slow, and his rocketlauncher only holds 4 rockets, causing him to reload often.
He does have a neat little trick, namely the rocketjump.
The basics is pretty simple, point at feet, jump and shoot.
However, the better you are, the higher you can come

Armed with :
-Rocketlauncher
-Shotgun
-Shovel

Pyro
Image"Fire hazard doesn't even begin to cover it."

Bio: A true pyromaniac. While his voice is humorously muffled almost beyond recognition in game, inspection of the sound files shows he has a barely traceable Italian accent.

The ambush class, his flamethrower does the most damage from point blank range.
It only has a limited range of 5 range, but does have a burn effect.
Everyone he hits, takes ~60 burn damage over the course of 10 seconds.
Because of his suit, the pyro himself cannot be set on fire by another pyro, however, he still takes the direct damage.

Armed with
-Flamethrower
-Shotgun
-Fireaxe

Defense
Demoman
Image
"Black. Scottish. Cyclops."

Bio: A whisky swigging, one-eyed man of Scottish origin, he has always harbored a keen love of blowing things up. He enjoys taunting his foes, even as their body parts rain down around him. He has a sheet of paper with a crude smiley face drawn on it taped to his crotch for the purpose of taunting his opponents.

As his name may show, the demoman is all about explosions.
His main weapon is a grenade launcher, with whom he can lob grenades around corners, or just to enemy players.
His secondary weapon, launches sticky bombs, balls with spikes.
They stick on walls/ceilings/floors, and are thus perfect for setting up a trap/ambush.
Just hide them out of sight, wait for the enemy to walk into them and KABOOM!, detonated.

Armed with
-Grenade launcher
-Sticky bomb launcher
-Bottle

Heavy
Image
"Cry some more. "

Bio: Like a hibernating bear, the Heavy appears to be a gentle giant. Also like a bear, confusing his deliberate, sleepy demeanor with gentleness will get you ripped limb from limb. Though he speaks simply and moves with an economy of energy that’s often confused with napping, the Heavy isn’t dumb, he’s not your big friend, and he generally wishes you’d just shut up before he has to make you shut up. He appears to be Russian in descent and his custom minigun is lovingly nicknamed 'Sascha'.

The slowest class of the game, the heavy boasts with the most hp of all the classes.
When firing his minigun, the heavy walks at a snailspace, but count on him to mow down entire rows of enemies.
A tip, hold down the right mouse for revving up your minigun, so you don't have to do that while facing an enemy.

Armed with
-Minigun
-Shotgun
-Fists

Engineer
Image
"A man and his toys."

Bio: This amiable, soft-spoken good ol’ boy from tiny Bee Cave, Texas loves barbeque, guns, and higher education. Natural curiosity, ten years as a roughneck in the west Texas oilfields, and eleven hard science PhDs have trained him to design, build and repair a variety of deadly contraptions.

The true turtle class.
He can build a sentry gun, which is the bane of a scout.
http://www.zoolooman.com/misc/SentryGun1.jpg
The sentry gun goes through three stages.
The first, is a slow shooting machinegun.
Level 2, is a double minigun model, which does high damage and pushs back slightly.
Level 3, is basically the same as 2, but with a rocketlauncher added on top of it.
Basically, a turret needs about 0,5 seconds to aim, but won't miss after that..
He can also build a dispenser, which gives out health and ammo, to aid his team and a teleporter entrance & exit.

Armed with
-Shotgun
-Pistol
-Wrench
-Construction PDA

Support
Medic
Image
"Can you feel the schadenfreude?"

Bio: A strong advocate of 'Doctor-assisted-Homicide'. Ever the professional, he always wears his surgical gloves into battle no matter how dirty the fighting gets. He speaks with an exaggerated German accent.

The healing class in tf2.
The medic has a minigun, which not only heals friendly players, but also raised their maximum hp to 150%.
This effect drops down slowly.
Also, while healing, he builds up an ubercharge.
When charged, he can grant him and his healing target, 10 seconds of complete unvulnerability.
Also note, that your aim doesn't has to be on your partner constantly.
The beam works as a leash, so you can stand around corners, while your partner takes down the enemies.
His secondary weapon fires needles which actually hurts pretty bad, but gravity has a lot of effect on it, so you need to arc the needles.

Armed with
-Medigun(healgun)
-Syringe gun.
-Bonesaw

Sniper
Image
"Crikey!"

Bio: A hard-as-nails customer from down-under who never misses his mark, much.

My personal favorite, but nothing really new here.
Headshots do extra damage, the longer you spend time zoomed, the more damage you do(stops at 3 seconds).
His secondary weapon isn't really powerful, so the sniper is better of running away, or killing them before they reach him.

Armed with
-Sniper rifle
-Submachine gun
-Kukri

Spy
Image
"I was never on your side anyway."

Bio: A master of espionage, several forms of unarmed combat and sleeping with seductive women, the Spy always completes his mission, and looks incredibly stylish while doing so. Speaks with a Franco-Spanish accent.

The infiltration class.
The spy is a pretty hard class, but incredible fun.
I'll go past his weapons and their functions.

Revolver : His weapon in firefights.
Packs a decent punch, but has a small magazine(comparable to deagle in CS(S))

Sapper : A electrical devise, that saps a engineer's construction, slowly draining it's life away until it is destroyed.
A engineer needs to hit the contruction twice with his wrench, to remove the sapper.

Butterfly knife: A normal melee weapon from the front, but backstabs(or sidestabs:P) are instant kills.

disguise kit : A handy kit which allows him to disguise as a class of the opposing team.
Nothing like sneaking behind enemy lines, joining their rush, and before they know whats going on, stabbing them in the back.

Also, a spy has the ability to cloak for 10 seconds, making him virtually invisible(unless he bumps into someone or eats a bullet) but it has a recharge timer

Funny, informative videos.

http://www.destructoid.com/how-to-be-a- ... 7916.phtml (Very wrong, but I found it to be funny too :D)
Well, its not completely done yet, but im tired so ill finish it tommorow.

Good night! :)

Yay! TF2!
TF1 used to be one of my favorite games, and if I could run it on my computer, I'd still play it. I'd love to play TF2, but my computer can't run it. It looks WAY different from TF1, though; the characters now almost look cartoonish.

I have to say, I'd love to play TF1, but I can't on my laptop for some reason. I just bought it 4 months ago, and it has 2G of RAM, but it lags like hell (on single player!) and some of the graphics are junk. Any idea why this is?

@g ram should be more then enough for tf( or tf2, for that matter)
Care to tell me about the rest of your pc?
Your cpu, graphical card, etc.etc.

But yes, valve decided to go with an cartoony look.
Tbh, I like it.
It's different then all those realism games, and it adds a real nice flavor to the game.
But im really off now, see you tomorrow :P

I like it too. I really wish I could play it.

This is my laptop. I bought it from Circuit City, but it's not on the site anymore. I found it on this site, though:

Here are the specs:
U305-S5107 Toshiba Satellite U305-S5107 Notebook 1.73GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5300, 2GB DDR2, 160GB, DVD±RW DL, Windows Vista Home Premium, 13.3" LCD

BTW, the thread looks really good. Forgot to say that in my previous post. Reminds me of happy times.

It's your video card, you're probaly have a 128 or a 256 mb on-board, and I'm sorry to say you would never ever be able to play it a on-board like those, try on at least a desktop pc without an onboard like a card like a ati 9600

p.s. I bought the orange box on black Friday (day after thanksgiving) and it only cost $25 and brand-new :D suckaz

As Gaige said, it's probably your video card.
I have 1 gb ram, ddr1, 1.7 ghz(pentium!) and a nvidia geforce 5700.

If i don't turn down the specs, i lag, but with everything at low, I can play it fine :3

My favorite is the sniper, just because IMO the difference between a skilled and a not-skilled sniper is huge.

However, I still remember the week of vacation, I had a year ago, in which I played ~7 hours cs 1.6 a day, AWP'ing(sniper weapon) every time.
So it probably has something to do with that :P

Hmm, you'll get bored to CSS soon enough.
In general the tf2 community is better, because you don't get far while playing on your own.
(unlike CSS) also, its incredible repetive, balance is something hard to find, and css even made making headshots easy for some reason.

Almost in the top 100 on the server i play on!

Image

Ive moved down abit since i last played i think cus people are overtaking me while im not playing. I know my kill:death ratio aint great but thats because of the times ive played as a medic, sometimes youll get like 3 kills and 20 deaths but youre still in first place because you got like 30 assists which is were the medics get the majority of their points.

Im not sure what my fav class is. I already had about 18hours playtime on the demo before i really started playing as a medic but i played it quite alot after that. At the moment im playing as an engineer quite a bit, usually on hydro. When i was in the beta i played mostly as a spy and overall i spent most of my time as a pyro or a demo.

I usually tend to pick my class not on which one is my favorite but based on the current situation, for example, im not gonna go as a scout when there are enemy sentries everywhere. Demos and Pyros tend to work well in most situations though which is why i play them alot.

Nah i dont think i'll get bored of CS:S anytime soon since im involved in soo many things, when i run CS:S there soo many things for me to do. With TF2 i just go into a server and play.
