First of all I want to say it's a good movie yet if you want to make a movie about an old epic, make sure you don't make certain errors.
I never read the Iliad, but only a synopsis, yet certain things I can truly say they aren't correctly show.
Partly due to it being a movie and we can't expect to see it 100% correct.
- *Only a small error. The movie clearly shows that Achilles jumps to shore as first. Yet the Iliad clearly says that the first person to land on the coast was Protesilaus. The reason for this was that Calchas foretold that the first Greek that would land would die as first. Knowing Achilles disembarked as first the movie would've been ended in the first 20 minutes.
*Menelaus wasn't slain in the battle with Paris. The Iliad mentions the battle and Melenaus won, but Paris got rescued by Aphrodite.
*Apollo wasn't the sungod. He was the archer-god of medicine and healing, light, truth, archery and also a bringer of death-dealing plague. IIRC Helios was the sungod. Although they were linked together literature never stated that and always separated them.
*Agamemnon never died during the Trojan war, in fact afterwards he took Cassandra, Priams daughter, as a trophy with him back to Greece.
*Briseis wasn't related to the royal court, yet the dispute over her between Achilles and Agamemnon was their. According to wikipedia Briseis in the movie was a mixture of the following characters :Briseis, Cassandra, Clytemnestra and Polyxena.
*Paris did kill Achilles, yet the arrow that killed him was guided by Apollo. Later was Paris slain which wasn't in the movie either.
*Helen did flea, but she returned to Troy and was taken back by Menelaus.
*Ajax was killed by Hector, yet Ajax should be fighting over Achilles' armour with Odysseus when he's dead.
*Achilles never was in the Trojan horse as he was killed before it while marrying a daughter of Priam.
*And as a last remark the following: The fee for the ferryman weren't golden coins but silver ones. I tough it was only 1 but I'm not sure
I presume many other flaws were made.
A few for creating a better movie.
A few for making a less complicated movie.
