Korean SSNs Used in kSRO Registry: Stolen and Against Law?

Post by IguanaRampage »

Well, obviously stolen Social Security Numbers in kSRO Registry are against the law in Korea, but in America is there any possible penalty for that? That is to say, can we in any way, shape or form take advantage of the fact that there are Korean SSNs on the web and use it to harm someone in Korea or siphon money from them, even if we wouldn't use it? Does anyone know if one can, or is likely to be prosecuted in America for this? Thanks.
Another way of looking at this is would you, as an American (or European, or Brazilians, or... well you get what I mean), mind if your social security number was available to millions of Koreans at the click of a mouse?

Yup to both ways. I'd bet it's illegal. Strongly bet.
Peace.

They will come to your house and make you eat rice!

Ohh the horror!

(Im sure at one point people will figure out that there SSN has been stolen and that account will get ban/blocked... Ohh wait its SRO.. Never mind..)

As to something happen to you in the US.. Were you a fool enough to put any real info when you reg? If so, I still don't think anything will happen. They have bigger fish to fry then a stolen SSN used to play a free game.

no i didnt, but see the reason im posting that it might be illegal is that I haven't stolen an SSN, and I'm not really concerned about what could happen in US, though I think the NSA could track someone down easily if they were pushed by the Korean gov't, what I am more concerned about is just that I don't really want to break the law to play a game a few months before I can play it without breaking the law.

ur breaking the law.

but the way i think about it is that..... laws are to protect people from danger/harm. And if ur not doing anything harmful or bad.. then.. to me its ok.

its illegal but i doubt US will do anything really, mostly if ur a minor.
im sure they have millions of bigger problems.

now if korean goverment says something to US or w/e maybe a small discussion will start.

I think its wrong, but im not an angel. As long as you dont use it for other stuff than the game and keep ur real info out of it you should be fine.

i repeat dont use it for something else, cuz if it was ur ssn going around im sure u wouldnt want it out there.

If you are korean and are found with them it is illegal even if you arent using it for harm. But if you from anywhere else and dont use it for harm they have no real reason to prosecute you. But if you do use it for harm they do have an international right to prosecute you.

most probably is ilegal as in any place as Karlos Vandango said it could fall under the terms of indentity fraud or intdentity thief. i dont thinks Joymax would hire a firm at the state, with a cost of probably millon dollars, to sue some teenager. anyways as is against the terms of service and the data u are providing isnt yours, they can block the user, i think that could be the fardest they get
ps.: if someone is interested in know more about identity theft here is a link: http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/fraud/idtheft.html
ps.2: ssn has been stolen from databases in america too, one of the biggest case so far was when someone stole the personal information of 26.5 million veterans. (data from cnet)
(\__/)
(='.'=) This is Bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your
(")_(") signature to help him gain world domination.
and the name of the next joymax game is...:"We apologize for the problems this may have caused."

shouldn't it be the other way around? if a "hackz0r" from the other side of the planet was using your identity, I'd be terrified.

Well the fact is if someone is using my social security number for hacking seeing as it now is an international dispute becuase a lot of times countries check soical security numbers for legitimacy. So if someone was using it for a purchase, a hack, a fraud, or simply selling it for profit then it is acceptable to press charges across borders. But if they are floating in the internet and you happen to use one (mind you not for harm) for a yahoo account then you technically are not in a violation. A lot of these stolen SSN's are probably from people who have passed away or ppl who gave them out after they had too much sake to drink.
