Question about making elements

Well I was trying to make elements for this tablet and I filled the 2 rows of things to be disassembled, and it wouldn't work. Then I put 16 of one item and only 1 fused. Can I only fuse 1 item at a time? I checked all the guides and all they seem to say is how to do it, then go right to making stones. :?

make sure u have enough void rondos and/or enough inventory slots
