Former South African President Nelson Mandela, who served 27 years in prison for anti-apartheid activities and led his continent into a new era, has died at age 95.
South African President Jacob Zuma confirmed the news:
"He is now resting. He is now at peace," Zuma said. "Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father."
Rest in Peace I myself never learned much about him, since at school I was taught mostly of Gandhi and MLK, but from what I have read he accomplished quite a bit to have helped gotten rid of a (very) f_cked up system.

^Basically he used to be a militant against apartheid in South Africa (which, from what I have read, seems to have been much worse than segregation in the US - they forced blacks to live in tribal lands and carry passports whenever they left these lands (in their own country)), got imprisoned for some 27 facking years; After apartheid was removed instead of killing all the white people like people were worrying about, he turned from his militant past and became a peace activist, advocated against violence, probably saved a shitload of white people lives in SA (which is why so many white South Africans love him, i'd guess); and now some cunts on reddit keep bitching about him bombing a mall some 60 years ago (cause obviously the way to change things is to do nothing at all while all your people are treated like dogs in your own country)
