You may leave now.

Got my key a few days ago, been playing like a mad man and went 9-1 with my first arena run. Think thats when you know you've been watching way too many streams.

the only thing yu-gi-oh and hearthstone really have in common is that it's a card game..

that is actually impressive, what class was it with? my first 5 arenas were really bad one winners, wasn't great at the game and didn't know how to draft at all. after reading a little bit and watching blizzcon i'm able to pull 4-6 wins pretty consistently now, with one paladin run up to 8 i believe it was.

You fight with cards, you have to take down the other players hp to 0, different kind of cards (monsters/buffs/traps and what not), ways to directly attack the hp.

This is all from what I have seen in a few vids and heard from a friend. But there are more similarities than it just being a card game ;p

yes that's pretty much the goal of a lot of card games not just those two.. the way the cards and game work and interact is entirely different. that's like saying basketball and soccer(football) are the same because you use a round ball and the goal is to get it into a net.

I guess thats true.. Doesn't take away I'd still prefer a game with more visuals, if I want to play with cards I'll just grab a deck =p

Only done one arena run so far and was with a priest deck (not the best draft but I managed). I've been watching I think on average about 3 hours of Hearthstone a day since the game popped up on twitch (3-4 months ago I think) but I was the last one of my friends to get a key so it's time for some payback.

Re: Hearthstone

i'm on US, i'll start a list of players to the op for anyone who wants to put theirs in this thread as the game gets going more.

first card set in arena draft is legendary, 9 mana 8/8 that makes turns 15 seconds, some really bad one i forget which, and lorewalker cho. i sigh and go with cho, then avoid spells as much as possible (4 total i believe in the deck)

Spoiler!

ctide#1933 on US

I'm self sustaining in arena atm though I spend all my gold before tourneys for cards (usually just play TLOpens and MLG Managrinds). Anyways, hit me up if you wanna chat or deck build together.

tournaments eh? respect. the survey they emailed to closed-beta people recently hinted at the potential for them to make in-client tournaments which would be exciting.

Yeah, that'd be sick. I loved the WC3 in client tournaments. Also, tourneys aren't such a big deal in hearthstone, it's all open invite so you just join. It's tons of fun. I love the competitive scene for all the games I play ever since I got into fighting games. Games with something on the line are just so much different (read: you make way more stupid mistakes that would never happen normally).

I know a lot of people are quitting at 8 wins to get the max amount of gold possible, but 9 wins has double packs which is so good

Re: Hearthstone

hmm seems to me like my arena success is extremely tied to the quality of class cards i'm offered in draft more than anything. when i'm offered stuff like humility, hand of protection, guardian of kings compared to when i'm offered truesilvers and consecrations makes the games so much different.

i go much further with quality class cards and iffy neutrals than i do with iffy class cards and quality neutrals.

also crimson, not sure what email you're using for it but you might want to search "blizzard" and "hearthstone" separately and see just incase, heard of people who didn't have theirs show up until they searched it. mostly with gmail while under promotions tab but you never know.

I think class cards, and class choice, has a lot to do with mana curve. If you like playing aggro deck with rush then the first set are great but if you get the second set you can play a nice mid range control. Usually after the first 10 cards I have a good idea of what kind of deck I'm going to get and then draft the rest of my curve appropriately. I know a lot of people swear by something like a 6-6-5-5-4-4 curve, but it really depends on class cards. Mages can easily go 4-4-8-8-4-4 because polymorph count as late game 6+ mana card and you can come back easily with blizzard + flamestrike. If you do the same with rogue you're going to find yourself starved for mana all the time and unable to combo anything. You sit there with a hand full of cards you can't play and then play sub-optimally mana wise (only using 5 mana on a 6 mana turn is quite a big deal, for example, it's how you lose the first player advantage).

Also, too many people throw away hands like 2-3-5 because 5 is too late. That's silly, you have 3 draws for a 4 out of 27 cards; unless you're extremely light on 4 drops (unlikely cause of all the strong 4 drops) then you should keep the 5 (assuming it's at least decent) so you can play 2-3-4-5 mana turns optimally.

I got my key today and this is my first match using custom priest deck...
Image
Early game, at like 3 mana, he managed to put down a 7/7 card, but I had an instant kill 5+/x card; so I killed that LOL.
I put down my light spawn (attack=hp) and I made it +2hp, attacked him once, later on, I managed to double it's hp up to 28/28, but he played a taunt card right before I got it to 28.
After he played his taunt card, I got a dispell card; so I dispelled his ass and rammed my 28/28 pen0r up his buttocks.
Rekt.

Edit:
It happened again, I got atk=hp + 2x hp card

I love combo decks and played tons of miracle rogue before patch, if only mage and shaman didn't exist with such an easy way to screw you.

Re: Hearthstone

extremely unhappy with my arena performances as of late, had a really good run of ~7 with 6+ wins and thought i was on my way to sustaining through arena but i'm back to straight up bombing. as much as i want to blame some of my drafts, my play especially my most recent run was all bad. i feel like i derp more for some reason, where as i play really solid in constructed.

which is unfortunate because i find constructed a lot less fun in its current state (better since the patch i guess)

time to read every thread/article about hearthstone arena on TL in my freetime i suppose

I feel arena got a lot easier. Since the good decks and good players stay in circulation longer getting a min of 7 wins is pretty much a breeze now.
