The FBI develops some hacking tools internally and purchases others from the private sector. With such technology, the bureau can remotely activate the microphones in phones running Google's Android software to record conversations, one former U.S. official said. It can do the same to microphones in laptops without the user knowing, the person said. Google declined to comment.
While this doesn't surprise me, what I wonder is, what happens if the DEA gets it's hands on this? All them drug related conversations at the DEA's fingertips?
A friend of a friend of mines always places duck tape over the camera on all his devices when he's not using the camera feature... I find that behavior odd but that's how crazy shit is getting these days....

Yea, a friend had a sticky note on her laptop's camera too and I thought it was unnecessary, it seems it isn't after all.
I don't know bout hacking android OS, but when I was younger, and immature, I used to be able to hack into peoples stuff. I would get remote access using a trojan in a random file(they shouldn't have been downloading anyways.winkwink). Turning on their web cam was pretty easy, and also helpful, but so creepy. So I can imagine this stuff would be pretty simple to pull off these days. If I didn't already fap on web cam--catch me every night round 9pm ET if you're interested Tasdik--things like this would scare me.
I put a sticky note over my laptop's camera last week because a while back I found that there were websites dedicated to hosting videos of people who didn't turn off their webacams. Then I got all paranoid about someone watching me fap, so I decided I needed the safety of a piece of paper.
I feel the same way about this as I do about the NSA shit, in theory it's a terrible thing, in all reality though all of your information is already somewhere in some database anyway. Yes its an invasion of privacy but I'd rather know that they were invading it rather than them doing it the old way and hiding all of their devious schemes.

I have nothing to hide nor do I really care.
So wheres the line? How much control and access to your privacy is too much?
Honestly nothing. I'm not doing anything illegal. If they wanna tap into my webcam or Kinect and watch me fap, that's fine with me. I'll make them a sign saying you're welcome NSA, enjoy
If they wanna see me searching for how to get to a different place in So Cal or looking up Rift builds, I really don't care

You do realize that they are trying to hide it, right? They aren't going to call you up and let you know they're collecting data on you to make a case against you for some crime. This should be completely illegal, and to trade the 4th amendment for some sense of security is just naive. They do all this shit in the name of terror, yet terrorist rank very low on the things we would actually be worried about... If anything, us(US citizens) and the rest of the world should be worried about our asshole government that seems to take pride in killing anyone they decide is harboring terrorist... It would seem they're the ones with the most blood on their hands this last decade, not the terrorist(Not that I'm pro-terrorist, I'm just anti-killing innocent people, and anti-butting-into-everyones-affairs.)
I honestly dont think they can keep saying all of this is in the name of terrorism, it just simply isnt anymore. Yes, I know they arent calling me to tell me they are watching but releasing this much info basically is. Now I have a reason not to get an android, and I'll just watch my tongue when speaking about illegal shit.
It shouldn't matter if you do or, not!... Government shouldn't break the "promises" in their privacy policies.
Like the government breaking "promises" is anything new...
When they start trying to dictate my daily life, then we have a problem. For now, if they want to tap into a webcam and watch me fap or listen to a phone conversation about literally nothing, I really can't find it in me to care. Sounds like a huge waste of time to me.

You know its not just about watching you fap? If they are able to so freely spy on anyone and everyone, how far off is deciding what we do allowed or not? It's not like webcams and microphones are the only thing they spy on. Maybe you should care before it gets to that point, even if it doesn't personally affect you right now.
lol The "who cares, it doesn't effect me." culture, is a special kind of ignorant bliss. Belittle all the people that complain about the government overreaching their boundaries... But never anyone left to fight the good fight when they start coming after things that you care about.(say maybe the internet?)
Either way, as citizens of this country it used to be our duty to make sure stuff like this didn't go on. We've been taught differently these days, we have become indolent. As long as we've got our favorite TV shows, movies, facebook, etc. We're content with having our privacy invaded, and our rights stripped away.

Because them surveying my internet usage/phone calls/Kinect/whatever has absolutely zero effect on my day to day life. Same with my family. Same with my friends. We literally can't find any reason to care because we're still able to do the things we want to do.
Also there's a huge difference between listening in or watching someone and actually controlling what a person is doing. Has this information caused you to change the way you talk on the phone or what you write in emails or anything like that? I assume no unless you were discussing something highly illegal.

Your not comprehending anything other then them watching you jack off though. Don't you understand that its not right? And if thats not right and they do it and no one cares like you, what happens next? The next terrorist attack or something causes a stir and they decide they need more control or w/e.
Too many people don't care about their freedom/privacy. Like Fiction said, if doesn't affect them and they get their stuff they like nothin else matters.
Jackal do you honestly believe your opinion matters to this government. remember how we were all outraged about the NSA spying on us, there was a proposed amendment to make it so they could only use the system to watch people that were under investigation. Most senators wanted it and it would have probably passed but it was shot down by behnor(sp?) and Obama . If a giant uproar about that won't change shit nothing will. Sure we can vote for the next guy and hope he doesn't do this kind of shit but more than likely he will.
So no I don't care just like curve because no matter how much I bitch and moan about how farked up this is nothing will change. Until they day people stop sitting on forums or voting in online polls about how they disagree with it nothing will change. Things don't get fixed by actions like those. I personally am not going to take off a day of work to be part of a protest against it and I doubt you would either.
