Ehhh SRF its that time where I come here and ask you all for some homework help.
My assignment is a synthesis essay for my AP english class that has to be 6> pages on any topic. I've decided to do it on ACTA. All I know about it is what I've read on the net, but some of the terms seem vague to me.
Any argument/ links/ thoughts/ explanation on ACTA is welcomed here.
If your arguing please site a source though =O!!
I have about 3 weeks to write this so I'll take my time to read through all the articles and arguments that are posted.
Thank you in advance
Edit: It would help if someone posted as to why its a good thing, any counterarguments basically, so I can counter them in the essay.

Re: ACTA synthesis
First off, as a simple explanation the ACTA is a proposed trade agreement amongst the international community to regulate counterfeiting on intellectual property (ie music, other forms of art, copyright, patents). You probably already know this, so lets continue.
Possible topics for you essay from what I've seen :
1. It seems there is alot of debate over the effectiveness of how well it will be enforced (past and current regualtions such as DMCA in the US) .
2.There is also debate amongst the various artistic communities over what defines an "intellectual property" (say if an artist were to mix songs composed by other artists would this be considered violation of copyright or if ).
3. The drafting of this proposal has been going on since summer of '08 (don't quote me on this!) Recently there have been various "leaks" of this final revised draft floating around on the interentz. You could do a bit on this.
4. Software and such are also considered under intellectual property and illegal trade of that is also supposed to be regulated under ACTA. However, in many countries obtaining software illegaly (cracks, etc ,etc) is a norm (my cousin in Vietnam said only way to get a copy of windows 7 there is from torrenting ^^)
-Sorry i neglected to include any sources. I did something similar (not directly related to ACTA) last year during AP social sciences as a final research paper, in other words i know my shit ^^.

Re: ACTA synthesis
Hate synthesis essays. I'm currently doing a rhetorical device analysis essay for my AP English class on The Crucible, but as far as ACTA goes, I highly recommend choosing a different, much easier topic. Their isn't much information as far as I know.
