Unlike the original Pokemon this doesn't look funny and bright at all, Ash looks like a drug addict and Pikachu is ugly.
That's how it looks like compared to the original Pokemon, but without comparing and as a fan made movie it's pretty good.

It appears that a.) this was the original crew in a later time. So maybe pikachu is more mature(despite the lack of evolving). And b.) they appear to imply that pokebattling is something like modified dog fights. Ive never seen a fat dog in a dog fight… not that ive seen many dog fights, but you know.
