Pirate Bay Sells Out?

TPB is selling it's site to a Swedish gaming company, which will start paying copyright fees to content creators.

Discuss.

well they were dealing with some pretty heavy legal crap (Pretty sure it was them at least)
So.. just as what happened with Napster a few years back, people will use something else, life and piracy goes on. It cannot be stopped.
Someone make me an Aion-related sig and I will give you 5 dollhairs.

Well I get why they did it, obviously. It still sucks. It still sucked when Napster went down too.

i better get everything i need while i can. But tbh we all saw this coming, i was loading up on TPB torrents during the trial, they have to pay back the massive amount of money they owe somehow.

Demonoid sucks, Mininova sucks. Anything that requires memberships and forced seeding sucks.

I might just go back to IRC.

Well, really all that truly happens is the main three drops to the two; those being Demonoid and Mininova. Not a big loss really, seeing that the main providers of leaked content will simply move onto the next best tracker (assumed one of the aformentioned).

Oh, and if anyone needs an invite to Demonoid, just drop me a PM and I can send you an invite.

Common misconception. There is no such thing as forced seeding in Demonoid; people just believe as much due to the ratio provided there (which incidentally is just a guilt motivator). Just go look in their FAQ.

You realize the speed of ALL TORRENTS FROM EVERYWHERE is entirely dependent on your own connection and the amount of seeders and their upload rate? The site has nothing to do w/ it, it's simply the popularity. And from my experience, I've never experienced anything similar to your problem by adhering to a rather simple doctrine: don't expect torrents with low seeds to finish quickly; simple as that.

Demonoid is famous for it's rare torrents(torrents that aren't found on other trackers), other than that if the seeder/leecher ratio sucks.

I don't really care if TPB goes out, I still have my private trackers.

I'm sure a "Pirate-bayv2" will pop up somewhere on the internet.

Scrapetorrent is my alternative for the piratebay. It uses multiple websites, it's like a google for torrents.
It sounds really good but it's pretty meh, there's a pop up every time you visit and load times can be slow.
I only use it as when piratebay doesn't have what I want, I still think it's the best after piratebay besides it's shortcomings.

You cant be called a sell out when they have spent the past few years of their life makign sure people got things for free.... thats a rather stupid thing to call them especialy when the people that call them sell outs are the same people that use the things they provided to get stuff for free lol

They actually got sued and lost, and now they have to pay about 30 mil swedish kr to some record companies. So my guess is that is one of the reasons they sold it.
