Re: CBR/AVR/AVR?
If I didn't use Apple products and iTunes, FLAC.
But 'cause I do, Apple Lossless.
EDIT - Sorry, just read this...
...and don't get it. Reittirate or elaborate pL0x.

the method (cbr/vbr/avr) at a certain bit rate or a range, I would use lossless codecs, but file size begins to become a problem

Re: CBR/ABR/VBR?
VBR seems to give me the best quality.

Total waste of space. Don't cheat yourself into thinking you can hear the difference, because you can't. If you are over twenty, your hearing has already begun to decline, and it won't stop until you have a hard time telling the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps.Nantosh wrote:Hmmm, why?

I'm under.
Big music systems, yes it does matter. Maybe it's just me, and my friends, but I can tell the difference when I play 256/320kbps rather than Apple Lossless on my surround sound Bose system.
For in ear and most other players though, yeah, you can't tell. Which is why I generally use 320kbps for my iPod.

I really don't get people that go for the best music quality possible with $300 headphones and special encoding and special players and that shit.

Re: CBR/ABR/VBR?
What's abr?
Also, I just use cbr, though vbr would probably be smarter in some cases.
I can tell the difference between 128 & 320, but I can't really tell the difference between much else. I'm usually OK with 128, but on certain very technical songs I'll get them in 320 because otherwise I can hear it all mashing together. But I am certainly no audiophile.

Re: CBR/ABR/VBR?
Most people can tell the difference from 128 to 192. Then next to that fewer people can notice the difference between 192 and 256. And very few people can tell the difference of 192 and 320.
You will get the full potential of .FLAC with expensive and high quality sound systems such as bose. But then again, you still won't be hearing the difference.
I only use .FLAC for burning to CDs. I try to keep the quality loss at a minimum.
