If I'm to the point where I'm in critical condition, I want doctors to do everything they can. Medicine, science, hard working doctors, and professionals would be what kept me alive.

Depends where I am, if I'm in a field all alone bleeding to death I would call out to god no matter if I believe in him or not. If I'm somewhere I can get a doctor I will go to them first ofcourse o.O

My friend actually had an experience like that. I know you're going to say blah blah it's easier to say that until it happens to you, but he actually gave me a lot of insight on the topic.

Pretty much, he was walking back from getting a late night Slushee when he heard a scream. He walked into an alley to find some drunk man trying to rape this girl, so he attacked the man. Well, the man pulled a knife on him. He got him once in the arm, and once directly under his right lung. My friend made the man run away, but the wound under his lung weakened him a lot. He told me that as he lay there, there wasn't any white light, no flashbacks, nothing like that. Just a calm euphoria and acceptance that this is the end.

That is what I believe it would be like to be in that field all alone bleeding to death.

Regarding your last sentence, the issue with supporting that idea is that you're basing your reasoning on maybes and what ifs, with no other robust concrete support to back your claim. The amount of ideas that can fit that same abstract logic are literally infinite. Scientifically speaking, claims are not made because you believe them to be true or they're too vague to be disproven but because there is at least some evidence to support your claim. As I've mentioned before, when you apply that biased degree of certitude to the idea that a higher power must be plausible, you will never be satisfied by other results until your claim proves to be conclusive even if it never is.

I realize that such ideas could never stand up to scientific scrutiny because the role of science is not to prove or disprove anything, but to explain. Although this confuses me because right now many well known physicists are proposing the ideas of parallel universes and dark matter. From what I am told these new claims hardly have more evidence backing them up than the higher force claim. Their existence were hypothesized simply to fill in the gaps. Now I am not asking for proof of dark matter or of the multiverse. I am simply asking why are these theories, which at this point are just as much in the air as the higher force theory, scientifically accepted and even acted upon when by your logic, there is no reason to believe?

Silo, yeah I do wish god did exist. But all my rationality and logic don't allow him to. Sadly, the world is pretty much a coincidence, but that doesn't mean your life has to be depressing and you just want to have a god around. Just make the best of it, and don't think about death

The reason such ideas are proposed and accepted is because there is some evidential backing to the claims. Multiverse ideas through the branch of theoretical physics can be put under mathematical scrutiny to test them. Without delving into differences between cold/warm/hot dark matter, I'll just say that we know its there because it can be empirically tested, it's just very difficult to get a hold of. Even though we have very little information on these subjects, the point is that we can test them because we have reason to believe that they exist because evidence points in that direction. We have no reason whatsoever to believe a higher power exists either theoretically or mathematically because there is absolutely nothing to support that claim, so to say that the notion of a higher power could also exist alongside multiverse theories or dark matter is a bit misguided.

Well, I'm sure glad that science is a process that works by analyzing data to come to the must accurate conclusion possible. At the time, to the best of their knowledge, the Earth was flat.

Oh and to the crap about proving how the big bang happened. Impossible. It will be possible to prove how it "could have" happened. I have nothing wrong with people posting their beliefs/theory's. But I find it ignorant to blatantly claim they are wrong and only yours is right.

Good thing there are no proofs in science, only in mathematics will you find proofs. I don't think anyone here has called the other belief outright wrong while declaring theirs 100% correct. What we HAVE done is question the logic and reason used by certain people in forming their beliefs. This example may clear it up for you: If asked where this all came from, I will tell you I honestly don't know, but to the best of our understanding (through empirical evidence and mathematical rigor) the universe as we see it is the result of rapid inflation/big bang. Before that? I have no fing clue. Now, ask this of a religious person, they will give you a matter of fact answer, God did it, but when asked why would you come to this conclusion, where is the evidence to back this claim, it is seen as if we are attacking them. Why is this? To say that the two beliefs stand on equal footing is naive at best.

Hmm, if I would ever end up in that situation I'd probably ask god for a miracle but you're right, it's always easier to say what you will do without ever experiencing it.

Yes. That's wrong. False hope is bad. It slows down scientific progression, which in turn pretty much slows down the progression of humanity. It stops us from discovering our origins and exploring to new scientific fields, because people think, it doesn't matter, god did blah blah.

How can you verify that a hope is false? The bad use of belief ie religion slows down scientific progression, the belief itself doesn't affect anything. Human is the origin of bad stuffs, not the idea.

First off i believe in God, to a point. I also believe in alot of our scientific theories today. Religion is something ive been born and raised on and something ive been used to. No i do not believe all my problems will be solved by praying and hoping because i also believe that you gotta make something happen and not just hope your problems will be solved.. Religion to me is a comfort and church is a nice gettaway from all of lifes hecticness where you can mingle with people who actually have the atleast somewhat of the same belief systems as you do and from what ive experienced dont argue about why this and why that.

Until someone can actually recreate the big bang theory i do not believe in it. Its been attempted but never has been succeeded, and as far as we know at this point is that the world was created by some other way (not trying to say it was created by a higher being). I kinda agree with twilinger. Just because there's evidence to point something out from a few scientists and such people automatically think well hmm maybe thats how life works or how the world was created.

In a nutshell believe what you want. Everyone has their right to because of the whole free will concept, but don't be like some idiots (not saying its anyone in here but just people) that willingly follow other peoples evidence towards why something happens because other people witness it and they have fancy college degrees. If people want to think im stupid, crazy, or even insane for my beliefs then let them.
