Where you are does make a difference. The USA spells through like 'thru' and Australians spell it 'through' things like that. Americans write 'mom' Australians call them 'mum'.

lol america doesnt use thru for through, thru is a slang.. Try writing an essay with through as thru and see if you get a good grade lol.
Exactly the same as the colour/color debacle; depends on your location. If you use British English, it's armour. If you use American English, it's armor.

Colour British <--> color American. Im on bilingual education in Holland, so i get half of my subject in English, other half in Dutch. Our English teacher told us that it doesn't matter if we use American or British, as long as we stick to one of them. So no color and harbour in one text. Colour and harbour is fine, so is color and harbor, but not mixed up.
