Spoiler!
Hello hat.
I'm with takolin, of course it's not all that glamorous on how they do it, but still, people want meat and leather too, people wear cows, eat chicken, pork, fish, sheep.
and only because baby seals are cuter than little lambs, calfs, piglets and chicks people make a fuss about it.
I'm sorry, but I ain't buying it.

Re: Canadian Seal Hunt 2009
Stop subsidizing it. Problem solved. It really is that simple. Now the question; how many Canadians are going to protest the current subsidization of seal hunting? Meh. I like Hostage's and Lava's arguments.

lol, save money, that's funny because anything our government does is gonna cost millions.
i signed the petition, yet i don't know why, those seals dead or alive aren't gonna do much for me anyways.

Signed. Thanks, I hadn't seen that one. I sent emails to a bunch of local grocery stores here asking them to consider boycotting Canadian seafood. I also called my representatives. If you're in the US and you would like to help out, or want more information www.hsus.org They have a lot of resources if you would like to make your voice heard.
Also, the argument I hear a lot is that if you don't do something about ALL animal cruelty, you shouldn't do anything at all. We're not all superhuman, there are limits on what we can do, but if you care, take the time to help out. It doesn't make you hypocritical to make an effort for one animal over another. It would be fantastic if I could help them all, but I can't. You have to accept the limits of living within the real world and be pragmatic. Don't let other people tell you you're stupid for acknowledging this.

one thing i don't get though, explain, why must you boycott seafood? aren't these hunters just normal people not working for anyone in particular?

The sealers are fisherman. On the off season they hunt seals. Their argument is that they need the seal hunt because they need the money. If people don't buy the seafood because of the seal hunt, they can't make that argument. Then the seal hunt hurts them economically and they will be forced to abandon it (hopefully). Plus, why would you want to support people who do that? Personally, I don't and I won't.

There will come a point when the seal population has declined so much that polar bears will starve to death (I think they are already struggling because of climate change).

Re: Canadian Seal Hunt 2009
There are humans dying from genocides and practically enslaved in many parts of the world, but obviously stopping the killing of some baby seals is more important.
You are now manually breathing.

Yet again it is something that the human race has done..
But it isn't just the seals that are in trouble, I agree that what these people are doing is sick. Its everything else that is going on in this world that needs to be stopped. Some time in the future, the human race would have wiped out most of the animals, which I must add have more of a right to be here then what we do. Have harvest every single tree, fished the whole of the sea.

And there are a lot of people who raise awareness about those issues. If you feel passionately about it, get involved. But just because someone is raising awareness about an issue they care about, it does NOT mean they don't care about genocide. Caring about seals and caring about people are NOT mutually exclusive. FFS you people are getting on my nerves with this shit.

There is nothing thats good in that picture, but I hope I shocked some people and they will sign some petitions now. You can hide this all, but that doesn't solve the problem. And yes it's Canada, it's legal to kill seals there. Other countries have forbidden it a long time ago.
