Whilst you may think you're having "Fun", believe me when I say there are more enjoyable things, games, hobbies, sports to do.
You did not just compare grinding in SRO to an FPS game. Oh god no. Prometheus, FPS games require a level of interaction from the user which stimulates them. They have to think. They have to react. They have to aim. FPS requires skill. In all seriousness, in Silkroad all you do is push 2134. That is it.
My statement regarding having a life was clearly directed at the people who grind off 3hour tickets each and every day. Playing 3hours a WEEK, is a little easier to manage a life than playing 21hours MINIMUM [most likley 35-40hours] per week.
Every mmo you have named there is hardly better than Silkroad. Try WoW or Warhammer. Whilst you may hate the stereotype of being a WoW gamer, sorry to say you are being a bigger nerd/geek by playing silkroad over wow.
You obviously have not played a decent MMO, one with substance. One which has elements of skill and that can be played competitively [and is]. One that doesn't rely on PvE content of grinding 3hours minimum per day, rather uses instances dungeons and group quests to occupy peoples time in more challenging and fulfilling ways. There is always SOMETHING to do. Silkroad there is what?
A bugged/glitched fortress war once a fortnight at ridiculous times on a ridiculous day. Stupidly ridiculous amounts of grinding to level up, yet achieve nothing. Capping at 70/80/90 and finding there really is nothing to do in this game.
Cape PvP, Job, Grind. That is it. Cape'ing is a stupid PvP system. For an "on-demand" style of PvP it is just idiodic. The amount of ganking and shit that goes on, crying over whose mother farked whose and begging for 10k gold of the full sun'd 100billion gold rich botter makes cape pvp utterly shit.
Jobbing is just stupid. If a server isn't one sided with hunters or thieves, then they lack any PvP at all. It's all about who has the shittest lifeless friends willing to stand next to a hunter and res/buff them all day. It's all about running around for 2 hours trying to find someone to no avail. Triangular conflict system was a good idea, but to play for more than a couple days just gets old and shitty, much like the rest of the game.
Grinding? Well, we all know how "Fun" this is. As if we didn't do enough of it to level to 70/80/90 we get to farm for 3x longer to get farmed simply to stand HALF a chance against the cheaters out there with full sun sets stacked up in there storage.
Oh, that's only whats "Bad" about the game which people say is "Good". The lack of updates, customer service, maintenance etcetcetcetc the list goes Farking on and on and on. Over the last few years watching Joymax, I can honestly say they are the most money sighted business on the interenet i have ever seen. Compare this to a good company such as Blizzard with WoW which doesnt recieves weekly updates which do nothing, their updates change the game... they monitor character balances, fix every bug out there, monitor PvE dungeons/instances difficult levels, release new gear sets for people to collect. That list is only a tiny portion. All this not to mention that it is said by almost all players who play WoW that the game BEGINS once you cap. Everything silkroad has or wants WoW has and maintains to a level far beyond that of joymax and silkroad.
Seriously, Silkroad sucks.
What I meant with the FPS/Silkroad 'comparison' is that I can have fun in either style of game. They are both different styles of course.
I understand what you're saying and can agree with a lot of it, but most of that isn't the fault of the game itself. As others have said, it's how the game is managed. If there wasn't such a bot/cheat/scam problem in the game, a lot of the issues wouldn't be there. You wouldn't have people buying tons of gold to stack their storages with sun. You wouldn't have botters (or nearly as many). You wouldn't have everyone else doing anything and everything they can to race to cap and get fully farmed to compete with the cheaters.
The main reason I think everyone seems to race to cap is because it can be hard to do anything 'fun' at a lower level. Since there are tons of lvl 90s running around on every server, FF/sun, where can a low level go for PVP or jobbing? If the levels were more balanced, it wouldn't be such a problem.
The game could be completely different if it were simply managed by a different company.
Solitaire, Collapse, Breakout, Snood, Oregon Trail... are all games that really don't have a lot to do, but I still find them fun. Not overwhelmingly exciting, but fun enough to pass some of my time away. Who knows, maybe I would like WoW better, but WoW is not free. I'd rather spend my money on more enjoyable things in life, like skiing for example.
Btw, I wear my Geek Badge proudly thank you very much!
