ya thats what i did 2Pilot wrote:CrimsonNuker wrote:whats the name of that cord above? >_<
Unfortunately, I dont know![]()
Unless youre buying it off the internet, theres really no need to know the exact name of it. Just go to your local best buy/radio shack and ask them for a "pc to tv cable", and most staff members will know what youre talking about. At least thats what I did.

Re: Tv as monitor?
hmm If your Video Card and your TV have a S-Video Output (computer) S-Video Input(TV), and some TVs actually have the VGA port like monitor so that will be a lil easier and if you have Hi-Def it runs more clear at a 1024*768, cuz if u use s-video that max res is 800*600

That is called a Component cable. It is used for HDTVs. 3 of the cables (Green, Blue, and Red) are for video, then the standard White/Red audio cable.
Pilot wrote:I use my 40" monitor as a desktop sometimes too. This is what I do:
1. You will need a VIDEO OUT/IN port on your computer AND TV.
2. Next you will need a cable (dont know its name) but it looks like this:
3. Link it up-both your TV and computer should have matching jacks.
4. Configure your TV to adapt an outside source-obviously yours is different-for mine, I visit the menu and turn the monitor option to "PC"
5. By pressing FUNCTION "Fn" key and then pressing one of the F1-12 buttons (one of your F1-12 buttons will have blue lettering that says "crt/lcd". Click this after your PC and TV are successfully linked.
6. Done! You should be able to view your desktop from your tv after this.
The last image doesn't make sense... From what I can tell though, it looks like it has a DVI (connection on far left), VGA (middle one) and HDMI. HDMI is the best quality possible for HDTV, and DVI-HDMI cables are common enough. I don't see how one could have 3 different connections like that image though.
I work in Electronics at Wal-Mart, this stuff is standard information to me ._.

indeed.
i usually plug my laptop in the tv when i go watch movies, saves me the time of
converting em to burn em on a disc. all i got is one s-video cable and an audio
cable. then you just add your tv to the screens (on most laptops thats SHIFT+F5),
not sure how that goes with pc's. but yeah, its very possible to use the tv as
your monitor.
You will actually need 2 cabels of the 5 or 6 that are on that cable. Im working on a tv production company and we use them to edit our recorded material. They actually give very good quality.

Re: Tv as monitor?
Go to your local PC store, not best buy; like comp usa or Fry's if you got one nearby, and ask them for a DVI to HDMI cable. They are $20 and work awesome. I have a 46" DLP tv that i run my comp sometimes just because i can. I bought the cable for my 22" monitor as it has a HDMI imput on it, and let me tell you, that is the BEST image quality i have ever seen for a comp on a tv. And my monitor picture quality is outstanding also. Hope that helps.
