F2P for a game means, free to download/install and play and sro is all 3 of those so yes the game is F2P, you just get alot of advantages if you pay.

For me, i don't think so.>_> Have playing isro for years, Silkroad online i mean, got so much fun from it and of course lots of friend either. It's really a fantasy game though it's old enough and you can't jump or fly like what you can do in many other games. But at the same time, it took me plenty of time, energy and money...though it's free-_-
First, you can not even log in game without a premium, cus the the server was always full:( Second, you will find it's really hard to get a good weapon. SOS? just a dream... Okay, i admit, yea i buy gold from gold sellers (maybe there is no "s", cus only one, <censored>, have to say they are really good guys xD xD) so that i can get what i want, high lvl (of course by taxi), SOS etc... Third, there are also beautiful suits and pets etc in game, they are really awsome, but, you have to pay for it.:( Or, you can just wear what you get from the poor monsters, stupid armors, sick weapons, you can also ask guys for money who like a beggar>_>
Really free games are FREE??? what do you guys think...

You buy gold?! :nowant:  BANHAMMER!!!

On topic: There aren't enough poll options here. SRO can be played for free, but the game itself is not free. Someone has to pay for it, whether directly or indirectly, or Joymax would shut the game down. However, any individual player could play SRO completely free if he or she so chooses. I played for several years without spending a single penny.

You don't have to buy premium. You can wait to log in. You don't have to buy avatars, globals, grabber pets, etc. You can just log in, create a character, and play the game without spending any cash. You just can't get the extra benefits that silk buyers get, but those benefits are not required to play the game. They are... benefits.

Then tell me why isn't it free to play? And no I won't read what you posted again. The game is free to get (download), free to install, free to log on (even though it will take a long time), no monthly fee..the only way it's a p2p game is your electricity and internet bill but then there wouldn't be F2P games >.<

k, you're thinking with only 2 things in mind

f2p games, and p2p games

i'm not, silkroad fits into the f2p games category in what comes to your definition of it, but that doesn't mean silkroad is actually free to play (there's a reason why i posted the meaning of free up there)

Just because i've said silkroad isn't actually free to play doesn't mean it's pay to play either, i mean, i don't need to explain myself any further right? You get where i'm going >.>''

I suppose one could say it's free to play but not free to compete, at least not free to compete effectively. I could spend 22 hours a day (need to sleep, eat, and poop) hand grinding and farming my way to lvl 110 FF. During my grinding, I could get lucky and have a full SoN +7 set drop from mobs, but I wouldn't have the added bonuses that silk buyers get to make them stronger.

In the end, if I was still playing, I'd continue to play the game for FREE!

Are you talking about free speech vs free beer? As in we can play SRO without paying cash, but not everyone is free to play SRO? Can't play SRO at school/work without permission (or without bypassing security illegally). Kids are not free to play the game without parents' permission.

I think you're making it to complicated for this lol...AFAIK F2P in the game industry means you don't have to pay to get online and play, but you can pay for extra stuff in some games and yes you are almost forced to pay but it is still your own choice.

This part is true. I've seen a few 'free' games that offers new areas to paying players which is complete bullshit if they want to stay a 'free' game. That is the only time I'd say it's an undercover p2p game or that you need to buy something to progress further. Example? Granada Espada. No matter how far you reach the cap of a character you will need to buy scrolls to go beyond 100 and that you need another paid item to get into a map where you get the at the very least must have weapon. Yeah it can be with in game money from other users, but in the end it's still bought. So I guess I wouldn't call every free game really 'free'.

However Silkroad doesn't do any bullshit like that. You can log in reach 110 and get to play in every area. You can go into the new instance if you do or don't pay a penny. You can make a +10 as can a premium user. You have the same skills as the paying user. In the end Silkroad can be free. If you choose it to be free. Knowing the users they see devil spirit, an avatar suit, and premiums they go omfgz must have. Well they buy it.

I fall into the "omfgz must have", but for a couple months overtime and that's it. One to have a quick farm then level though. Avatar because I fell for looks. Devil spirit because of the hp increase. In the end I didn't give a shit and went around with a party robbing trades. Oddly enough I was a 'godly' thief without the 'needed' accessories. In party play it doesn't matter, but Silkroad lost that.

you guys are right, it is indeed free if you want to play.

everyone gets free food, this free food is poisoned tho.. but if you buy some ingredients, you can make your so called free food be healthy, so, whoever buys that ingredient can eat healthy stuff that will be good for themselves, while whoever can't afford or doesn't want to buy the so called ingredient will eventually get sick from the food.

Sure, you can eat, your hunger will go away, but eventually, in the long run, your life quality will be worse than if you could buy the ingredient.

So, the conclusion i take is, all the food is free, you can eat it without having to pay a dime, and your stomach will be full without having to pay too.

In a sense of the word, it is free, but it isn't completly free, if it was everyone would be able to have food the same exact way, no room to buy something that will give you something better, everyone gets the same experienced for free, then you can say it is free, in the full meaning of the word

Am i the only one who missed discussions like these?

I remember when srf used to have people that, when trying to prove points would write long ass posts and stick to their opinion till the topic got locked lol

SRO is only free if you have an insane amount of free time.

SRO doesn't require an insane amount of free time to play. You're still playing the game whether you are lvl 1 or lvl 110. You can put an insane amount of time into it if you CHOOSE to get to a high level, or farm a lot of SP. This is not a requirement for playing the game. It is a condition that you place on yourself.

It should take time and effort for a player to reach cap, or to get high leveled skills to be powerful. Powerful, capped, FF characters shouldn't just be given to each player. If it were the case, everyone would get a 110/FF character upon creation.

You don't need free access to every aspect of the game for it to be free to play. You can get access to a free concert, but still have to pay vendors money for food and drinks. The food and drinks may help give you a more enjoyable concert experience, one that only paying customers get, but the concert can still be enjoyed without paying anything.
