Sharp324 wrote:Would be a good card without a PSU upgrade. The GT is still solid. The 9800 GTX is a little better obviously but if you were going to get that then might as well get the new PCB that comes with the GTS250 (rebranded 9800 GTX). Though i got a GTX260 that i built last monday, cause after rebate it was actually the same price as the GTS250 but had considerable more power. Also came with WAW, so was a really good deal for it. Course you needed a more solid PSU with some good amperage on the 12v rails. Remember its total watts on the 12v rail divided by 12, thats the amperage on the 12v rail.
allow me to bash on you you a bit but the gts250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX+ not a 9800 GTX ( google the difference )
On topic: ati will be releasing the radeon 4770 in about 2 weeks for under 100 bucks which offers performance similar to the 4850/9800 GTX+ while consuming less power ( def blows the 9800 gt ).
personal advice ? wait. they will be releasing some new cards this month which are expected to drop prices on current ones.
little performance latter:
i would honestly skip this first section considering how low prices are on gpu and the big performance gain from next segment
4670
9600 gt
9800 gt
4830
this is what you want, unless you game on a 24 inch monitor you have no reason to go above a 4870 since it will 60+ fps every game
new 4770 ( will play everything on high-ish ) 99 USD
4850-9800 GTX+ ( will play everything on high-ish ) 140 USD
4870-gtx 260 core216 ( will max out everything besides crysis but we all know that crysis was only made to frustrate people ) 180 USD
nothing to see move along, you will only waste your money beyond this point.
4870 1g-gtx 260 core216
4890 ( will be released this month for around 260 bucks and will apparently be taking a shot at the gtx 285 )
gtx 280 ( which i dont understand why is out on the market still )
gtx 285
ill see if i can find you some deals on newegg.ca tomorrow but this is some rubish to give people a better idea of where to start looking. btw i believe i saw a brandless PSU and that is a no-no since they go out and tend to take your entire system with them.
not waiting a month or two for a decent card that will last you for a good couple of years = phail.
