Astral is a waste, yes.
Immortal on the other hand is very useful. I always use it.
although.. I mostly just buy drops with immortal on them from SN, if I pimp something that I use myself and go for higher than +5 I put immortal on it.
I have a +6 2H crit12, if I didn't put immortal on it and it got destroyed that'd be a total waste.

i guess this means time/date might have something to do with alchemy rate succes..
i had a theory about this, but ofcourse u cant confirm stuff like that cuz its not repeatable. it is very obvious though.. as u said "a +7 spree". u never got past +5 and all of a sudden ur getting multiple +7 items just because u did alchemy at that specific time.
i guess loads of ppl have similar stories about how a certain item kept failing to even reach +3, and all of a sudden they get it to +5 or +7 in one shot.
do u remember what day (and preferably what time) did this happen?

It doesn't help..It's all just random luck + the luck factor on the weapon/gear/accessory piece.

OMFG! I was at school all day thinking about going for a +6 on this staff i bought.(FULL BLUES w/ IMMORTAL / STEADY) It was screaming +7 me!. NICE stats and at +4 for only 95mill. Failed +5 first try but i got it back to +5 in one go, then....
