Winning the war on bots!!!

Post by bunny »

I was checking out the Expose Botters part of SRF a while ago and I noticed something realy interesting. Almost nobody was "exposed". Most posts are by bots admitting themselves that they bot. Now I don't know how you guys see this...but I see it as a big I don't give a damn from their part. Probably cause they can change their Ip in under 10 mins and join back if they like, or maybe because they really don't give a shit if they get banned.

Thing is...how can you win a war against them...if you can't hurt them? Sure you can ban them from forum...but in game...they are untouched...and personaly I think the game is the warzone not the forums...after all...they don't bot in the forums they bot in the game.

An other point is...even though most of them aren't gonna admit it...I bet you anything 90% of people here are bots, have been bots or have been power leveled by bots at some point in time! And if you want to ban them...go ahead...but may I ask what you think you're achieving? Except the illusion that you have a bot free forum of course, though I think everyone here knows or should know that that is impossible for the simple reason that its near impossible exposing all bots simply because many of them are 80 and don't bot anymore, some just got powerlvled by bots so you can have zero evidence against em. Others...you simply don't know who their chars are! And at the very bottom of the line...just about everyone can use proxy's to change their IP and come back and brake all the rules and have zero fear because nothing can be done about it.

Right now...I know of 2 people on this forum...both of them have been here for over a year...and I have seen their Europe chars being afk powerlvled by their Chinese char. Chinese char was of course botting (I know because I lured on them, talked shit about it, they died and didn't say a thing). I'm not gonna mention who these people are because there is no point, I'd just be starting a flame war. But both on SRO and on SRF they hold themselves as the best legits. First legits to hit 80(one of them hit 80 before even a single bot could, go figure!) bla bla bla, point is...they have tons of friends both here and in game and im pretty sure most of if not all of their friends believe them to be legit just because they took precautions and powerleveled themselves in areas were there are usually no people.

In conclusion, I just wanted to point out that in my opinion (and its JUST an opinion)not only can this war NOT be won, but its been lost from the start. You won't EVER find all the bots...even if you could...you couldn't keep them out because you have no means of permanently banning them! In the end all that can be achieved is about 3 seconds of happiness, whenever a bot gets banned even though as far as you know the next day he's gonna make a new account pretend to be someone else and probably become your friend!

not only is his post "JUST an opinion", it's also a rehash of fifty billion other similar opinions critical of this war on bots. big waste of time, but a big plus on post count.

Yes you could proxy and remake an account, but as soon as your identity is revealed, your account on forum gets banned. By not being able to represent yourself consistently with an identifiable forum image, you loose that connection quickly with the community, and as such never be able to be a part of the community such as SRF.

Mmorpgs are all about community, and you find them everywhere but more so congregates on forum such as this. You might not be able to do much in game, but you hit them where it hurts the most. Getting them banned here might not seem alot, but severing the ties with an active community kills their drive to play the game (if their motivations are not purely financial, or other deviancy). Think I'm making this up? If I was wrong, why do you see continual remakes of accounts from members previously banned. They want to be heard, and they want to be heard badly, appreciated, getting credit for all the time "wasted" playing a game.

I agree with you but im pretty sure this "war" was ment in the manner of SRF Legits vs SRF Botters, the ultimate goal in this "war" is to rid srf of botters (Which IMO also rids srf of its good/nice people)

The botters that are in SRF are getting banned because they are breaking the rules.

But from the way i look at it, the botters arent doing anything to ruin the forums, they arent promoting botting..

But from the other way people look at it, its very Black and White, They bot in game regardless of who they are= Ban, Dont have any 3rd party programs/bots= Not Ban.

In a way its kinda like this..

A botter is like a person in a neighborhood (in america), they are nice, etc. but they are secretly a terrorist planning to bomb the hell out of..England.

What do you do? Report them, and get them arrested. Its almost like instinct

Sorry...but I don't see what you mean. It just doesn't make sense to me. You say it hurts them? Then why are they coming out and saying it to our face that they bot and they don't care what you do about it?!...look at Expose Botters discussion, Most posts are bots just saying they bot and not giving a crap about it!

Also...your right it is all about the comunity. And the comunity is made 90% of botters! I for one have zero doubts about that! From what I saw of their posts on Expose Botters forum, they all just going to some other comunity like 0x33 and whatnot. I donno how big that comunity is...but its certanly gonna keep growing while SRF is gonna get smaller and smaller! Besides as far as I know...no offence to anyone...but botters are more knowledgeable about the game then are Legitz. Im only lvl 23 and don't know much about SRO. But Im pretty sure that the best Guides and Tutorials, or listings of character Skills and most usefull information that can be found on forums is supplied by bots. Because they all have like 10 accounts lvl 80 fully farmed, so they know the best builds, skills and everything like that! And I play for so long just to get to lvl 20+. So by kicking all bots not only would you have to kick most people in the forum but also probably the most knowledgeable and helpfully people too! I know most people don't like bots, but iv'e met a lot of nice guys and girls who are botters...and im not saying I support what they do, cause I don't, definitely not...botting does nothing but ruin the game for us all...but I just made peace with the fact that I can't stop them and after all they are people too.

And I still don't see what kicking them from SRF is gonna achieve. You don't really think any of them is gonna quit playing SRO altogether just because they got kicked off a forum do you? I certainly don't! And like I mentioned before...the botters bot on SRO not on the forum. So you can't beat them by kicking them off the forums...so realy this is the wrong battlefield...which is why they don't care if they get kicked and they just keep coming out and saying it! (Still just my opinion, so if you think differently thats cool with me, I might be wrong not been here that long)

Words can mask so much. Behind each member and charachter is a person with needs, something as simple as to be heard. If my words do not pierce you, then it is my wit that has failed me. I agree SRF is not the only SRO forum community, but players do come here, and they continually do.

The most knowledgable of players are not necessarily the ones with the most capped players. A player who bought 10 lvl 80 charachters from ebay may not even know yet how to log in.

Yeah but they ain't buying the chars...they are making them. And even though it hurts me to say it...I have yet to see a legit character be stronger than a botted one :( And I don't mean just the gear...skills and pvp strategy also. They know a lot about the game because they can explore every corner of it very quickly.

And the SRF botters, are those that post the virus links and porno sites.

Everyone else is legit in SRF if you ask me, because they are the actual person typing the post. I understand you hate bots for ruining the game...and so do I, but this is the wrong way to go about your revenge. All it shows is how powerless legits truly are against bots! :(

This is true, and they wont ban the ones that have the most conclusive evidence possible. The only real bot ban list from joymax.

So we should ignore your post cause its "JUST an opinion"? This war on bots is stupid, only people who would care about getting banned from here are the people with no lives. Not like its gonna stop them from botting...humorous though. But idc dont really play anymore.

All this war does is provide some entertainment and chaos. When I saw the first topic for the whole bot war, I actually convinced those that were on [vent] at the moment to join me in the desktop topic. We gave ourselves up for shits and giggles. This is my 9th [?] account now in 2 days. I've got pre-made accounts and can come back as much as I please, assuming that I feel like scanning and pinging for nice proxies. I'm assuming this [acc] will be banned, so if I post in this thread again, I'll be on some other nub.

Anyways:

There honestly is no point to this... If banned botters want to post here they can. If it means making an anonymous account, and pretending to be legit with an IP from china, Russia, or wherever, then be it so. Like I said earlier, whether somebody is a bot or not doesn't matter on a forum. As long as the discussion brought up is fruitful and informative to other members, then they serve the community.

"All this war does is provide some entertainment and chaos." Thats precisely my point. Banning people from SRF is not gonna make them stop botting and its not gonna make them stop posting on SRF...so what is the point?

IMO this war started so that bot haters can feel better about themselves and to stir up the community a bit. Result: bot haters are full of themselves and the community is stirred up.

Well if thats the real reason...then I guess its a success. I actually hadn't thought about that!

Maybe this might be a easier solution for the admins.

Since there will be legits left in this forum , ban every account thats not an admin , than any1 that is legit and still want to use this forum will surely make a new account. Wouldnt that just save time ?

Pretty much in reference to the points i read.

This is a war on srf, not sro. We can't stop the bots in sro, but if we promote the idea and respect that comes with being legit many will turn this way ( as Avalon has proved ).

Personally if you aren't legit than you don't belong on this forum. Simple as that. I wish srf the best of luck with its war.

You make some fine points, It's true that most of the "Exposed botters" on this forum have not technically been exposed, but through admittance. How exactly do you expose someone here? It's no criminal law investigation, there is no DNA testing or Judical system. Every little bit of evidence posted against someone, CAN and WILL be denied. A forum post, "Oh, that wasn't me. Probably someone using my name to try make out it was me...", Or a screenshot / Video,"That's not me botting, that char got hacked!".

Point is that it is impossible to prove someone of botting, unless they generally admit it themselves. Part of the reason why I think this SRF stance of 'War against bots' is absolute BS!
They know the majority of this game, and this forum have at least used a bot / 3rd party program in the past, and every bit of evidence posted against someone at this forum is good evidence, yet no actions are taken if the accused is there to deny it.

But, after all it is Ryoko's/SG's choice on how they lead this forum, they're choosing to do this, they're choosing to ban whom they want, and no one has a right to argue against that, and I guess if you don't like it.. all you can do is leave...

I see what your saying, and personally...as far as I'm concerned...its their forum they can ban whomever they like for whatever reason...but then they shouldn't call it winning the war on bots. Because that makes legits look completely helpless against bots, not only they can't be stopped from botting on SRO, but now they can't even be stopped on posting in a forum cause all they do is remake accounts all day!

And as for Gubronicus' post. Sorry dude...your a lvl 80 wizard...just cause you went invisible with lifeturnover and killed Jv or whoever doesn't mean much. I saw Tyrant and EuropeanFTW capefight vs you, Ron_Burgundy and 1 more wizard from ur guild...and they won every time. I also saw Ron_Burgundy vs Tyrant...and Tyrant won every single match. Its unfortunate but its true. And if your gonna say that's because Tyrant has a SOSun...its not true...I saw Tyrant pvp EuropeanFTW (which is the same build as Ron_Burgundy but botted character) and Tyrant only killed EuropeanFTW once...and died to him at least 5 or 6 times. But still this isn't relevant to this topic at all, so enough of that.

What he means is they, sometimes indirectly, lead newer members who are also sometimes new comers to the game itself to bot. Usually when they see the lvl that these individual reach with minimal effort. You may ask how would a new member is a not, well a lot of times people on srf voice there opinions quite loudly. Screaming "botter bottter" in almost every "yea I Iz lvl 80 now" thread. I know that I'm just regurgitating what a lot of the mods have said but to a extent it is true.
