dude, I support you 100%. i think a private server would be really fun. I could help suggest some events, maybe help with bug testing on your server and whatnot. I want a game of freeze tag XD

I like the idea..... But i must say something....

1. I dont really care about meeting other ppl,because most of them dont even talk or are bots so dont talk.... Got used to the non much public chat

Second.... Boring being killed by the same or helped by the same person....... When i was trading i got killed by some lv 70,tomorrow i saw the same person again..... Good it was a one star back then

Thats why everyone loves the idea of a private server! The entire game can be manipulated into a perfect world. There would be no bots. Everyone would have sosuns and sos. Everyone would lvl at 100x than their Joymax server counterparts. GMs would (theoretically) make it more "fun" by throwing "events".

Its a waste of time and energy. Just trash the whole idea.

If your opinion is that after caping its all boredom and nothingness you need to take a break in WoW, and if you think there would be nothing to do you need to cap and do more things with your guild.

Who the hell plays on a private server if the regular game is free to play?

Private servers are only popular amongst cheap asses that cant afford/don't want to pay to play the P2P games.

Let me guess, you cannot connect to due to server traffic or something? Your server will have a cap also. Once those millions of anti-joymax people play on yours they will complain about the same thing.

I will be playing private servers for several reasons.

1. Custom content. Modded Exp//SP rates
2. Players can finally play around as a GM without having to worry about being "Fired" (Assuming you make your own server or get hired onto a PS GM team)

And your right all servers will have limits MUCH lower than the actual servers due to stability issues. Server crashes are going to be common in the first few months//years. I would be surprised to see 500 players online in the first version of the emulator without a server crash.

yeah, you should get some manners, the way a lot of people on SRF should. Ive never "brought someone elses ideas down". Im simply against it. Im making a healthy argument. If its because my points are too good and you cant help it, then piss off. Foudre doesnt regard me as an @$$hole either. Ive made good points on the negatives of a private server. Who are you to barge in and shoot me down like Im the bad guy? Lol, and what does my "life" have to do with this?

I was wondering about this previously too. Does it cost to run a private server? If it does, who would be paying for it? The GMs or the players?

yeah, it costs some $$ to run a private server, need a fast cpu, fast upload speed, need to be able to handle 10000s of data requests / second, etc.

of course, it would be very very illegal to allow players to pay for it.

private servers are supposed to be run by bored people who have some extra dough.

lookin foreward to some events too. like one, where you spawn hundreds of weasels or something right outside jangan, then have a contest to see who can kill the most in a certain time limit (and keep spawning them)

all the other servers for sro, besides isro, have events such as unique spawn parties, many enemy fighting, etc. hell, we could even do like a race, block off the city teleports and race from jangan to constantinople. many possibilities.

also, i think you should set yarkan to drop some bunnies.

i have a idea and why don´t you make so you only can buy npc gear and no pimping the gear? then it is a fair game. no sox, no blue, only npc gear. maybe only elixir so you can + your gear? Good or bad? or maybe a event like this?

Haven't read the thread, but if you were to do this, ensure the SP gaining rates are higher than exp rates.

Exp: 3x
SP: 5x

It would cut down the boredom of farming, but not completely, so you still need to put some effort into your character.

I know no one is willing to commit i'd just like to know if i could even get a few people to help me test it out when i can get it going, and possible a few other gms.

well ill be willing to help test it but about being a gm :S its gonna suck and i dont really wanna see myself as a gm as soon as i log on i bet ill be getting so much spam and shit its like i feel ill be fixing problem intead of playing the game i would rather be a tester than a gm but if gm's are gonna be the tester then i guess ill be one but im guessing u have to apply for tester and apply for gm im guessing its separate

People keep talking about "high exp rates". Why is it that on private servers u lvl faster? Doesnt make any sense. That would be simply retarded. lol think about it. Every damn player is capped at 90 in 24 hours. Whats the fun of SRO then? And at that all those lvl 90 players packed into one server? Boring as hell.

I for one enjoy private servers. I can try other builds at cap and find out if I would like it in a shorter amount of time vs the real jm grind time.

Yes i would join SRF private server.
It would be cool if it:
-F2P(Can take excepts Like 5-10 bucks per month)
-No Item mall. You can buy all things for a game money(Thats why for monthly little pay)
-Exp//SP rate incrased Well 3 times would be enough
-Gm`s Also forums where u can get gm accesses etc.(Example SRF forum)
-If exp rates incrased also incrase item drop rates sox drop rates and amount of gold.
-If it would be atleast 70% online time. It would be great.
-Unique spawn rates incrased(Maybe setting lvl limits also)
-And offcourse the illegal player banning. By gms.
I duno if someone could make something like that or similary like it. I would 100% JOIN becouse im tired of JM horrible support
EDIT: Btw Please sticky it. I think SRF private server would have a future. Maybe paying joymax for theyr datas and copyrights wouldnt be so bad. Maybe players would cover that with 10$ per month

I don't understand why you would have grinding at all. Why not just make it so everyone gets to pick out what ever build, skills, and gear they want right from the beginning? That makes a whole lot more sense then increased rates.

Plus you could then save huge amounts on file sizes ... for example, you wouldn't need the DW caves at all nor the Chinese ong area and much of the area around the black robber den. Most of the far east portion Takla Makan wouldn't be needed either ... who needs so many Niya Guards anyways? I am sure there are lots of other areas that could be similarly eliminated because they just wouldn't be needed.

I would have to wonder if private servers would ever get updates too ... like would you ever get the Islam portion of the map or ROC mountain? OR maybe Joymax gives away the free emulator just for the Chinese map ... and then charges 10000 USD each for Europe, Islam, and Roc Mountain. Steal the coding for the updates and get sued for copywrite infringement?

the emulator is updated with each update (that matters) which joymax makes. you dont steal the damn code from joymax, you make the whole thing from the ground up.

next, you cant take out those areas, since the client will not run (and they cant figure out how to get it to, so far) if the pk2 files are different sized th an they are supposed to be (so no severe pk2 editing for now)

furthermore;

what the hell, those areas dont even take up that much space. in fact, take out the whole jangan area of the river, take out constantinople, take out whole donwhang, and samarkand, and just leave hotan open for maybe running outside the gates and kill a monkey if you feel like it. and just give you a character? so you dont do anything? then why even play? increased xp rates is just so you dont have to spend 6-20 months or bot to get to 80, you can just grind for one or two weeks in your freetime.
