SRF AC Teams: 3rd Team Leader

Post by fena »

0l3n wrote:You need to make a poll to asign the 3rd TeamLeader.

Well? Just thought I'd get this post up ASAP so people could start voting ASAP.

reK is leader of Team A.
Rizla is leader of Team B.

Who do you think should be the leader of Team C?

On the poll is a list of the people that I think are qualified, both in the qualify of their posts, and their skill as an artist, to be a team leader. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post and I'll add it to the post.

[Edit:]
Knuckles is now also an option, although I can't add him to the poll anymore. If you feel that Knuckles would be qualified to be the leader of Team C, either post it here or send me a PM if you want your vote to be private. Sorry for the inconvienience (however you spell that).
[End Edit]

Rizla wrote:dom did not ask to be included in the initial teams, therefore he would need to publicly apply for team registration before I would ever consider nominating for captain, and he would also need to be willing to be assigned to a team if not selected.

You're right. However, I can't edit the poll anymore after it's been voted on. I'm sure that Dom would agree to be a Team Leader, provided that we met a few of his requirements.

But until he officially states that he wants to be included in the poll, PEOPLE THAT VOTED FOR DOM MUST STATE THAT THEY HAVE, AND CHANGE THEIR VOTE TO SOMEONE ELSE IF THEY WISH FOR THEIR VOTE TO COUNT. ALL VOTES FOR DOM WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
Sorry for the problem!

Thank you for taking the initiative to start this fena.

For leaders, we need someone both active, and responsible/mature.

Forum Activity/Maturity > Photoshop Skill

Although PS Skill is preferred, it is not required.

Think about that when you are voting.

dom did not ask to be included in the initial teams, therefore he would need to publicly apply for team registration before I would ever consider nominating for captain, and he would also need to be willing to be assigned to a team if not selected.

Ol3n is a good choice based on integrity, but as he said himself he doesnt have enough time to dedicate much of his to this, therefore I would see him better suited in the capacity as a team member.

I elect Snudge due to his composure on the forum, his quality of work, and his level of activity.

I am not going to vote for myself, which makes the choice pretty hard.

All of those mentioned above are, more then, excellent artists in their own way. They all show maturty, and are quite active here. But I haven't seen anything new in the Photoshop area from a lot of those names lately, so my vote goes to 0l3n

Do you have anyone else that you'd like to nominate for a leadership position? In regards to your comment about how PS Skill is NOT required, if that was so, then I think you'd be a good candidate, from your maturity and the quality of your posts. I'd edit the poll and put you up there, but I can't anymore. I'll also add to the original post, although I can't add you to the poll.
Sorry.

I'm going back-to-school shopping for a few hours, guys. Might be back in about 4-5 hours, so I'll check this thread then.

dom has something to say:

The reason why I did not want to participate is because i'm very fearful of the effects that this will have on the AC membership. What you're doing with the current setup is putting members in competition with eachother on a weekly basis. If those teams are static, and members cannot design with who they wish one of two things will happen: they will get bored, or offended at unfair teams and simply quit; they might become very critical of eachother and tensions may grow.

With that issue aside, what are you planning on doing about activity? What happens if someone decides to just stop participating, or is inactive for a week? Having one member not do his best will shatter his team. Right now it's setup where people are too dependant on eachother and do not have the freedom to decide who they want to design with, when they want to design or how they want to design.

The last problem i'm fearful about is the logistical side. Simply saying "oh hey, this is a good idea; let's do it" is not enough. I've been part of many projects like this and logistics, very unappreciated and often overlooked, is a nightmare. It becomes a day job for one person, as one single person must admin everything and be assured that everything will work out. This is the question I have for everyone organising this: are you doing it for yourself? because you like competing and want to have fun? or are you doing it for the members, and understand there will be lots of hard work and for the most part you will not have time to participate in the events you organise? The later is the truth in projects like this. If this becomes sucessful you will not be able to participate in the events. You will have to work arduously to assure that everything is setup a week in advance because members depend on you. Breaks are impossible, it's a machine that you keep running and if you slack for a moment, whether it be for a vacation, school, exams, etc. the project will fall apart.

If you're thinking that there's four of you, the work is easily spread on all your backs, you're thinking wrong. Working together is key, making decisions together, planning together, etc. However, there needs to be one person to put this into action, to finalize decisions, to call the shots when shots need to be called.

For the three of you leading this at the moment: I do not question your motives, it's clear you want to organise this and want it to work out. However, I question you ability: are you able to handle all of this yourselves? I question your experience: do you have experience in management? especially conflict management? To be more precise, I question knuckles: a member with 135 posts, whom i've never seen here before, a person who's character I know nothing of; is he capable of doing what he's attempting to do?

To add to that, besides the effect it has on older members, there needs to be something to draw in new members to the AC corner. If someone's missed a few competitions you do not want them feeling behind, as I think some who wanted to join the Sig Wars thread was. Sig wars is easier than this, however a collaboration will be a large piece and new members may have a hard time adjusting; as old members may be reluctant to let new members do too much for a length of time.

That's why I originally proposed a general membership. You join, you have access to the weekly competitions and you fix your teams for that week. If you have bigger ambitions, you could always do a collaboration that YOU organise and submit it to the team to be posted on the group's devart and website.

Well as far as team cohesion goes, I believe captains would be able to avoid any issues with a draft style formation, so long as the team leaders think as actual leaders and attempt to form the team that will work best with eachother, and not the all-star team.

You're not who's important. What about the members, what if they don't like their teams, or wish to join a friend in another one later on?

It seems there are still many kinks in the works. An official rules should be published on one of the two threads discussing this. Those rules should be a draft and then I think discussion will go more smoothly once there is something tangible to change.

Either way. A mod should step the **** in, make an official thread/index with proposed ideas, contact info for the organisers, links to important polls; and, sticky it.

Well we have that dilemma concerning equality when people join teams based on friends/acquaintances. What if all the best people are friends? And what if there is not enough room on one team for all of the friends to be included thereby leaving an odd man out? How does he feel and how do the other teams feel going up against a stacked team?

I dont think changing teams will be impossible or an issue since most people here know each other and there might be someone willing to change teams with him/her.

Dom makes some excellent points that I wholeheartedly agree with. We need a Mod to be with us every step of the way - he doesn't have to make any of the decisions by himself. I think that we regular Forum mebers should be making the final decision. But he just has to be there to SEE all the decisions we make, and then make the neccessary changes to the Forum that only a Mod can make (for example, a Sticky or a subforum). So far there haven't been any Mods whatsoever that have really even ventured seriously into any of our threads concerning these AC teams. I still feel that the majority of the Mods here are inactive. I haven't seen reK. SG is gone. Key-J doesn't appear to be that active of a Mod anymore, and cin hasn't been posting as much as he used to? Not to mention that I almost NEVER see EllisD anymore. I can't remember the last time I saw him post, although I've never ventured into the Q&A recently.

I want to add on a personal note that these comments shouldn't be directed at me. I'm not organizing any of this, nor would I be a person suitable to organize this. I believe that Rizla nominated Knuckles to take charge of this, and I think that he would be able to do a fine job.

Dom, I think you would make a great leader, and you have some AMAZING imput. I believe that many of us would want you to be the leader of the 3rd team, but you have to give us your OK.

Guys, we need ACTION. We need people to organize this. I suggest atleast 3-4 organizers who can promise to be active enough, and support this throughout the entire thing. Not ditch at the first sign of trouble. And people who would be ABLE to work together. Not fight and bicker. Talk and discuss.

Am I making valid points, or am I just restating what Dom has said? I feel like I'm just saying what he's said, but he's made such excellent points.

Cin is still on vaca for 3 more months I think. Rek is... well. SG is moving, Ellis answers questions and sometimes ventures in OT. Key-J he pops like Ryoko.

You need organization before action. I will say this again, from my point of view it would be extremely foolish to move before having something written down, rather than bouncing off ideas.

1. It saves new people the read of three pages of discussion, and after reading the 'rules' they can just input.

2. There's a consistent rule, rather than the leaders making stuff up as they go along and one day post "we should do such and such".

I thought cin was back from vacation? I think he stated that he was back, anyways,

We really do need a Mod for all this. I think out of all the Mods, either SMS or cin would be the most active. As cin shows a genuine interest in the AC, would it be possible for him to be the... official Mod Team delegate to our little project? :P

And yes. Of course we need an actual rules post with all the official information on that. That'll come later. We don't even KNOW what we're doing, let alone official rules. When we actually finalize this entire thing and get it into motion, I'm sure we could make an official post with information for new members on how to sign up, the rules, when contests happen, etc. etc. etc, and get a Mod to sticky it.

I thought he was still away, dunno.

I realize nothing is finalized, so what's wrong with a draft of rules?

It makes discussion easier. Yes you do need a mod to edit said draft when changes occur. Once the draft is up, the discussion can revolve around what to add (which includes what you guys are actually doing), how to do it, and when it should be done etc.

I would vote for Dom as team leader, provided he would be a willing participant as people have mentioned before.

If not, Snudge or 0len.

P.S. No problems with cin playing overseer.
Permanently retired from Silkroad Online.
