can u get hacked by exchange?
can u get hacked by exchange?
my guildmate and me are worried because we made exchange with a well-know hacker on our server... i always used stall to sell and buy items, but we've done a exchange item for item, so we cant use stall, and now our whole union is saying that we are going to be hacked...
is this possible or only rumours?
thx

Actually, back when I use to play SRO seriously, around the Babel gold dupping time, there was this huge scare going around that you could be hacked if you accepted an exchange or party. That was like 6 months ago, but I think it was nothing more than rumors.
Here are some really old threads about it:

Anyways, just to be safe, only exchange with people you know and always sell/buy via stall.

No one's gonna give you an outright yes or no answer. If you read the threads I posted, a lot of people believed it to be true at one point. There's no harm in changing your password, but if the exploit is used to get your ID, then you could still be brute forced. Just change it to random letters and numbers, or randomly capitalized "leet speak." (Yes, leet speak can be useful at times) It's pretty much impossible to bruteforce those passwords.

no its not why on earth would it send packets containing your id and pw the packets being sent during exchange are the same ones being sent when you even SEE a player on screen if you are afraid of being hacked through exchange well... then you better run far far away where no one will find you EVER!

+1
I think the id and pw are sent when you login, so how can they get it via a simple exchange?
CTRL+W = ?

I was going to make a post saying the same thing, but he beat me to it.

bruteforce? if someone can bruteforce your password, your an idiot...try implementing some basic password security ie: a good password is a start

I don't know about other servers, but i remember in begining of Open beta at Xian server, there were lot of problems with security, and there were bugs, and lot of rollbacks, and I remember there were rumors about exchange hack. I Don't know it might be true, everything can happen.
But there rumors actually started in pretty dumb way. My friend got scamed for shitloads of money(yes, hes idiot), and on global he said that 1 guy named like"sd__ownage_ok" hacked him threw exchange. What happend next? some other idiots remembered they also lost money threw exchange with this guy(of course they were dumb and got scamed), so they also said that hes hacking. It went pretty bad.
Oh and if there is 1 guy, like well know hacker to everyone, and hes bragging or something like that, then hes not near good hacker than there are.

Thats what Ive heard. Im kind of paranoid. I never accept anyones exchange (if its not my guildmates or really trustee friends). I always ask for the exchange to be sure. Its the same about partys, I never accept a party coming from someone else than my guildmates or trustee friend. Otherwise I joina via the party match system.
