Seen a few videos of this. Pretty awesome, the whole 3d printing stuff. I can't wait till it gets more refined and more common. I so want one lol.

But ya, the first place my mind goes with printing guns, is very useful in the zombie apocalypse.

I got a report and presentation due in a few weeks on 3D printing technology...The controversial issues surrounding using this technology to create firearms is one of the points I have to talk about...

This technology is only going to get better....I believe with some printers you print mental parts...That means any maniac can make his own untraceable gun in the future...Will be interesting to see how the government is going to respond....

I've used 3d printed parts for some of my projects, quite some
time back now. I personally never really thought they'd be able to
print materials strong enough to hold such forces though. The
plastics I printed were so fragile they were mostly visual features
rather than useful parts.

Very interesting to watch though..

Has anyone seen that video from a few years back where someone was
working on a 3d printer for food? I believe he used food-concentrates
as a base for printing food that actually tasted like food.

I liked the bit about printing cups. I'd love to design my own custom cups. And plates. And matching knives! I'd create the funkiest kitchen! :D

They actually printed a 3d skull for a guy ....
The entire 3d printing technology may be incredibly useful in medics, if you can print organs, rather than wait for a donor, the world has made a huge step forward.

Does anyone else notice that 3D printing technology is the precursor to the replicator seen on Star Trek?...That replicator produces anything they need....but mostly food...

I go to hackaday so I've been fortunate to keep tabs on 3D printing since it's early days with homemade machines. My friend made one and it's pretty cool though limited in size. 3D printing at it's current state will not become the future, but if improves to be usable with a more variety of materials then it will. :sohappy:

You can't create food. Food is the first of the five Principal Exceptions to Gamp’s Law of Elemental Transfiguration.

I think as 3d printing evolves, it might have a great effect on the economy as people are able to create a lot of things themselves and don't have to buy finished products as much. I kinda like what this guy is doing. Let's see where this leads.
