I used to play quite a bit of normals, but have switched to playing some more ranked now. Have gone up over 100 rating over 2 days. Feels like I didn't lose a thing.
Played Jax and Olaf mostly, top and jungle. They're so ridiculous late game, real nice to turn the game around if their late game isn't as beastly.
My current ELO is 1397 and my toprating is 1460. Hoping to get to gold (1520 afaik) before the end of the season.

I played ranked games with a friend who loved to "troll" if he died too much. It did not end well... My elo is currently at 900.. I'm just going to wait for the start of the new season to start playing ranked again, you won't believe the type of people that you get in there.

Also can we discuss how the client randomly chooses somebody even if you they go AFK during champion select? I think that should be removed from the game.

From the few ranked games I played, we'd usually put me AP mid with Viktor.

Well... there's your problem right there. Viktor is like the worst AP mid you can pick.

That's absolutely not true, he's a very safe pick in lane if you ask me. He's a great teamfighter with that stunfield and ult, lazer is a great poke + farm tool. Just his Q is a little short range, but he's definitely not bad.

In fact, I can't think of a single champ that's just plain bad atm.

His laser is too unreliable, too many times I died or lost games because laser bugged.

heimer? guy is a squishy snail and his turrets are countered by common sense

its hard to kill heimer though if he knows when to put down his turrets, along with his grenade and missiles he can just farm and outdamage you if you go in on him

Tryndamere isn't bad, just countered so easily. I'd definitely consider Tryndamere a less troll pick than Heimer or Viktor though

Nothing counters skill. if you're good with a champ its better to play it then to try counter picking with someone you're not as familiar with.

So I think I'm gonna use this thread as a place where I write down my adventures of ranked, a sort of ranked journal. (Encouraging others to do it as well)

I've been trying to play Jax exclusively since I melt faces on him. I got him like 2/3 games so was really nice.
Had really hard times against a Yorick in lane. Like 3 levels advantage at 15 min mark, double my cs and I had to build wriggles. Lost the game without chance, all lanes were losing and mine was losing the most.
Played my first support game ever on Taric. Was pretty easy mode, roamed a ton and ganked mid 2 times, warded their blue and stole them all. Really snowballed hard off of my epic level 1 Taric invade with 2 kills and 8 assists. Really unsure what I should do in lane though, and I still feed too much thinking I can tank / do dmg.

Also feel like my champion pool is too limited for ranked. Don't have strong top laners like Irelia, Yorick, Lee Sin and Vladimir who are almost never banned. Need to learn to work PayPal and buy me some rune pages and champs.

Pretty good winrate but got 'carried' quite some games (all lanes were winning and I was 50-50 top)

good idea, i like it and liked the read. i hope more people will do such a thing. it will give me some motivation while i level through the late 20's and work on increasing my champ pool.

do a lot of people play normal draft pick? or a decent amount? when i'm comfortable i'd like to play it instead of just normal blind pick.. no bans so lame.

I play some ranked and I want to go up but I had a big loosing streak and now I'm struggling up the elo from 1300.

I know that blaming the people in your team for loosing is bad but I'm at that point where I'm better than most people in my game but still not good enough to completely carry the game, especially since I main vlad and vlad has to wait until late game to wreck face, at which point my team has usually lost the game.

When I get back home I'll start playing ranked again since the season is almost over so I don't really care about my rating, and I'll keep you guys updated.

Play Jax/Kayle man, hybrids too stronk. I carried myself to a new top rating (1474, yay) with Kayle just now.

I feed my adc lots of kills, so that pretty much wins us the game. Been lucky and havent had a fucktard lane with me yet.

Not me, I mostly solo-q'd but when I did duo-q, if things go bad I'd just gasp at how so bad some people were laughing on teamspeak about how much stupid shit was happening in the game. Have to say I never really did get upset with any of my ranked partners (know them all IRL though)

Solo queue does **** up your experience, then after 300 or so games you just learn to suck it up and ignore the trolls.

So I finally broke 1500, yay Last ~20 games or so I've just been swinging between 1470 and 1500 so it's nice to have a new top rating at 1514 (one game away from gold!)
Been trying to expand my roles some. Jungled GP and Udyr, went cho gath mid and won all those games

I feel like Cho is such an underrated pick. He was buffed quite a bit the last few patches and it really shows. High base movement and best sustain in the game make for a scary lane and if you hit the skill shots he's actually really deadly.
Also bought Yorick after saving up for a year to get him. Tested him in two normals and didn't like him so much. I know he's a real strong laner but I like 'kill champions' better than 'win lane win game' champs. Guess I should have thought of that before I bought him but oh well... at least I can counter like every melee top now. (Yorick too op)

Not sure which next champ to get. I have really few (26, of which I only played 13 in ranked) so I need to make smart picks Any suggestions? Thinking about Irelia atm.. I like strong late game bruisers

I tried Irelia but it got boring fast. Mostly because I hardly ever reached late-game due to feeders. You should try Vladimir top, he is free this week.

Weird how you dislike Irelia for not being able to get to late game, and then suggest Vladimir which is almost an exclusive late game champion
Vlad has never really appealed to me tbh

I know I know, its contradicting. Still, I can farm with vlad early game, but I have problems with Irelia doing that. Probably my skill level tho.
