Give us ya thoughts on this sport please.
I'm from Australia where there is a sport that in some parts of the country is regarded as a religion but due to the name "Aussie Rules" it has never really been introduced internationally. So just knowing most people here are from Europe and America, what do you think of this if it was introduced in your country? Just curious. Consists of 17 teams played on ovals of around 160 by 140 meters, because of this size and it's rather lengthy game time ( 4x20 min quarters) players have been recorded running up to slightly over 20km in a game. The objective is to kick the ball through the two middle posts, which gives you 6 points, if it goes through the outer ones it is only 1 point. If you catch the ball from any other players kick and the ball travels over 15 meters and isn't touched by anyone, it is a mark and you get to kick the ball without anyone being aloud to touch you for 10 seconds. K, average player size is about 6 foot 3 and about 85 kilograms, about 170 pounds or something.

What's this? An improved, non-gay, version of soccer, with a hint of Football in it? I'm intrigued.

Yeah mix of a lot sports really, it even has a bit of basketball, you have to take a bounce every 15 meters.

I actually like it, lots of teamwork. The only thing I don't like is, it looks like American Football without proper equipment lol

that's what we like though, bring's the toughness factor into it, not saying NFL doesn't have any but you can't teach stuff like this, it's in a person. Although sometimes there has been calls for helmets as it just gets dangerous.

No, your gay, son. Soccer is crazy awesome, unless your some fatty dik who can't kick a ball or gets tired after a few sprints (not pointing any fingers though, only @ Tasdik)

True, if you didn't know Hawthorn has a program where they develop players from NZ and pretty much scout them, one of their players Shane Savage atm is from that system

I used to play footy, got into the semi's once, won the grand final once, got quite a bit of injuries, and caused some to others aswell, it's a great sport to play, Only played two seasons though, it's an easy, and good way to keep fit. Also, there's very small places in america that play aussie rules.

Would be better if put underwater.
Re: Give us ya thoughts on this sport please.
I think they should mount a basketball rim between the high post and if you kick the ball in the rim that's 20 points. Also some of the players should carry baseball bats. Those players aren't allowed to kick the ball. They should also add a goalie..A hockey goalie..scoring pass him is worth 12 points. What I'm saying is this sport could use some "more sports" in it.
OK enough shenanigans aside....It seems like an OK sport. I'm not a fan of rugby or american football but I do like the goal kicks in this game. It seems this sport has a bit of flow to it. I hate a sport where the flow of play lasts for 3-5 seconds and you don't get started again until 5 minutes after...kinda like american football. Don't get me started on baseball... I call that sport "watching paint dry"

It probably is the most dangerous team sport actually, between the 8 games a weekend you usually see a concussion and some other thing's. One team this year had about 18 injured players at once or something, near struggling to play a fit side.

4x20 min quarters, but its like basketball where it's 20 minutes of actual game time, and there are alot more stoppages in this game so each quarter ends up being around 30 minutes each. This video shows the fitness of the players really, in the last quarter of the game, so nearlly 2 hours of hard running and he does this.

Yes you need to be incredibly fit to play AFL, but its more like a non-contact-ish NRL / Union. I know there is tackling, but it can't be above the waist iirc.. I have never played, so I don't konw the rules very well. Never really got into it.. Much preferred to play soccer, and watch the rugby league.

Not really a huge fan of team sports. It looks interesting enough to watch while you're a bar but aside from that, doesn't interest me. I prefer watching sports that are 1v1 or 2v2.

I like how you refer to golf as a sport.

physical activity of walking the course coupled with competition between players, a set of rules, and people that watch it. Yeah I would say that it is a sport.

Re: Give us ya thoughts on this sport please.
I played AFL (Australian Football League, 'Aussie Rules' is slang) for about 6 years and have been around the game all of my life. It's quite a difficult game to play because of the sheer fitness required, as well as the team work involved. It's a pretty fast paced game, it's a lot of fun to play once you get a grip of it. Sadly, it's a sport that's very difficult for children to get the hang of due to the co-ordination involved in both catching, tackling, bouncing the football and kicking. There's a lot of basic school that need to be mastered early and that turns away a lot of younger children. It's a shame, really.

Seriously, get your head outta ur ass. Soccer is a sport tainted with injury fakers and whiners (Ex: Italy & Barca). And how is it conceivable that in 2011 there is still no video replay. Soccer could be great but as it is played now, it's far from being great. Give big penalties to the fakers and introduce video replays, that would be a giant step foward.
As for the AFL, that's nuts! I gotta watch a game someday.
