Sure some scientific studies leads to dead ends, but many provide invaluable information or new methods that can be applied to real life. Some ventures lead to useful discoveries on accident (see x-ray for example).


The thread question ask "Is Science Necessary?".. That's pretty cut and dry to me. It didn't ask if some scientific pursuits or some branches of science were necessary.

Most of those ancient cultures had a form of science regardless of their wonky believes of the evil Sun God.
