my neighbour, 18 years old, just attempted a suicide. he jumped out the window trying to kill himself. i rushed to help help him, but was told by his mother that there was already enough help. things like these make you think, people of whom you thought were havind a nice life, could have a pretty f*cked up life.

he is in the hospital now, don't know if he survived it or not.

i was clinically depressed for about a year so i know what its like to walk through the world with nothing to live for. The only person who can really bring you out of it is yourself, everyone who tries to help is basically trying to get you to realize that or just making you as comfortable as possible while the downward spiral continues. Either way being depressed is not an excuse for suicide. Actively trying to take your own life to escape reality is just a waste. You don't know whats on the other side anyway so its a dumb waste. Like i said there are people out there who have it a hell of alot worse than most people who commit suicide. The whole act is like a slap in the face to every person on the planet who chooses to keep getting up despite everything. I see it as an insult to humanity. Im not saying i hate people who commit/try to commit suicide, im just saying i lose alot of respect from me and they're certainly not getting any pity.

My grandmother's sister's husband hung himself in the entrance-way of their home. He was a well established psychologist, no one had any idea.. I'm sure finding him like that was extremely traumatizing to his wife and loved ones.. I agree it's extremely selfish. At least she's gotten over it somewhat.. or hides it and goes about her daily life very happily on the outside.

Hard for me to imagine things being that bad.. guess because I've never experienced that low of a low.

I'm sorry, but I do not agree at all.
I wouldn't ever suicide myself, although I passed through some hard health problems. But it's not just depression, emoness, thinking of being refused by the world, et cetera that lead you to this act.
Our literature professor made me and my classmates write something about Dante's Inferno XIII canto (chapter), which talks about suicided men in the past.
One of these people is a poet and he killed himself because other people thought he had done something..let's say fishy and wrong, though he had no fault, but the fact of committing a suicide.
Another man, that is not mentioned in that chapter, but about whom we had to talk, is a person who lived at the times of pre-imperial Rome. He killed himself for freedom. It might sound strange, yes, but he was chased by some soldiers and, rather than giving himself to the enemy -who was considered being wrong by Dante- he chose to not live anymore. For this Dante does not collocate him into Inferno, but into Purgatorio, giving him a chance to reach Heaven.
This man was in latter times described as a man that believed in what he thought, model of moral perfection, surrounded by the four human (cardinal) virtues: Sapientia (Knowledge), Iustitia (Justice), Fortifudo (Strenght) and Temperantia (Temperance).
It's just a novel, I know, but it should make you think about what's right and what's wrong.

I don't really know what Christian Bible says at all, but I actually forgot to mention a thing. The person I'm talkin' about, Cato, is the guardian of Purgatorio and, being heathen, he's not nearly supposed to go to Heaven (the Christian one).
But well, Silo..I'm just talking about a novel that SHOULD make you guys think. I've already said that I wouldn't suicide myself, but I can't blame those people that, most likely without a family and without friends -this also reminds me of another italian Jew poet who killed himself because he survived to Nazi's concentration camps, left without friends and relatives- choose this way. It's not my duty to change their mind, although I know I should at least try to talk to them.

I stopped a friend of mine from commiting suicide 2 years ago or so.. had to run away with her pills =/

I accidentally tried to commit suicide few months ago (lol accidentally tried.. sounds like shit but meh, I only wanted to sleep and I took all sleeping pills ).. my parents thought I was psychotic, but I just exagerated with sleeping pills cause my brain wouldnt let me sleep after bad shock.. now I think theyre over it lol. Ive been close to death before, but this time was a bit too close, really scary I wouldnt do that again

My mom's threatened to kill herself many times just to get some attention, makes you forget it's actually real for some people.
I am pretty neutral about suicide, as long as it doesn't affect other people's life's I don't care too much. I strongly support euthanasia however.
I feel so strong about euthanasia because I saw my grandma go through bad Parkinson, if I would ever get to such a stage with no hope I want to be able to decide it's enough. It's my life, I shouldn't have to suffer that much.
She chose not to do it, but it's good to at least have the option.

There was a kid at my school last year who was always trying to start fights with people over the littlest things and one day someone finally beat the crap out of him, he committed suicide the same night. Always thought something was wrong with that kid. Oh yea I remember now that his grandma found him too, thats got to suck for the lady.
