I believe it's just a remake of the animation in manga form/story. So kinda the same..kinda.

i don;t know many FMA fans who have read the manga and imo its much much better. But them basing off the manga is probably not going to happen seeing as the manga is still incomplete and thats why the FMA story shifted in the second half in the first place.

I've been reading everywhere it's based on the manga, no new story or anything. Even if it's not based on the manga I know it's definitely not a brand new story.

If it is a retelling based on the manga there will be very few differences from FMA season 1 and that start of the new series. Like i said the anime really doesn't shift stories until the second season...
