youtube is getting so gay with copyright sht, do they expect people to write their own songs for their videos?

Those are the ones I can think of for now. So, no, YouTube doesn't expect its users to write their own music (although you could if you used GarageBand or SoundBooth), but to use music that is allowed by the artist or company. It's not that difficult to find legal and free music.

I personally use Vimeo, but it's nothing like YouTube. Mostly personal projects and lots of HD content.
