What does that have to do with it?
More then you think, maybe you should visit your Wiki and read up on bipolar disorders.

Hey asshole, I am bipolar. I've yet to hear being bipolar causing you to air your suicide live where people can try to talk you out of it. Something else besides being bipolar caused him to do that.
Individuals with bipolar disorder may become suicidal, especially during mixed states such as dysphoric mania and agitated depression.[95] Persons suffering from Bipolar II have high rates of suicide compared to persons suffering from other mental health conditions, including Major Depression. Major Depressive episodes are part of the Bipolar II experience, and there is evidence that sufferers of this disorder spend proportionally much more of their life in the depressive phase of the illness than their counterparts with Bipolar I Disorder (Akiskal & Kessler, 2007).

Thanks again Wikipedia!
I already knew that. I know it can cause you to become suicidal.

I knew that, you wanted to know more about "why he did it"
And who knows? Maybe he did not have the same level of support available, his father commented on the fact of his son needing help and how he wasn't there to assist him. What really went on in his head will be a mystery forever. But it's my belief that pushing this kid into committing suicide was uncalled for, whether someone fakes it or not, encouraging anyone to take their own life is beyond me. Assuming things literally can get you killed, yet many people still think otherwise.
And the reason he went online was to ask for support, if you knew yourself well enough to realize you are in deep shit when certain emotions begin to surface, and you also knew you were unable to contain them or act correctly upon them, you would seek out help from other sources available to you, he had nothing at the time except his Internet, so he asked for help there and received the opposite. But the very fact he went online also showed his will to live.
To our knowledge (or some) it's dumb to ask for online help, but in preservation of one's own life, people have done stranger things.
Then again I don't have BP disorder neither am I a qualified physician which can thoroughly explain it to you. This is just something you would need to oversee and grasp for yourself with your own words.
