Core Temp?

ok, finally after not having my pc running for 3 days cause the PSU failed, i just booted up and checked my core temp with this program and it says that the core temp is 50C(idle) which is very high since before this PSU problem it was 35-40C (idle). but i know it's probably only this high because i took the heatsink off and adjusted it and in the process removed the thermal paste (i think). anyways how high can you core temp be before it's dangerous, i'm scared the play and game and see it go over 60C.

Just a wild guess but maybe you weren't getting enough juice from your PSU therefore causing your cpu to run below what it should.. making it cooler o.O
or you messed with the thermal paste too much :p
should be fine.. but if you want just take it out again and do it right.
I hate that stuff.. never spreads evenly for me.
BTW what program are you using to show your cpu temp? only know my card temp with GPU-Z but cpu-z doesn't show cpu temp.
Riva maybe? haven't used that in a while..

that list is old and has nothing for duo-core but the other stuff on there satisfies me, thanks mousetrap

dont worry too much, your pc will make an annoying beeping noise if core temp gets too high. My old Celeron used to go up over 70, and that was a peice of shit :wink:

From what I read, I guess it's ok at 60C and anything above 70C is not good. Btw, ambient temperature plays a role in this as well (AC unit, cold house). It's fall/winter season, have you upped your heating in your house/computer area? If those conditions are ok, then I suggest maybe reapplying your thermal paste to your heatsink. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Quick question as well: Are you overclocked? If so, maybe put your cpu back to default/factory speeds until a solution can be found on your PSU/CPU temp problems.

Maybe you should re-apply some thermal paste. From what i know it basicly connects the CPU to the Heatsink.
