SRO randomly freezing (on Radeon X800)

Post by A-Dawg »

OK, so my problem ain't nothing new I suppose, but I'm hopefully lookin for help. The thing is: SRO freezes completely randomly, sometimes on the login screen, sometimes in-game. Sometimes after 3 minutes, sometimes after 30 mins. Sometimes there's a VPU Recover message, sometimes not. Sometimes freezes and after 7 seconds the screen reappears and sometimes it turns black and I have to reboot my comp.

Here is general info bout my machine takan from HWiNFO32 (sorry for being lazy :p):

Well, I hope any of this information will help (I think it's video card problem as I've seen in other forums that ppl have also problems with Radeon X800. Although I gave all in-my-opinion-necessary specs, because maybe the problem is in overclocking, BIOS or anything like that, I dunno, I'm not an expert). I tried everything I found on forums: lowering gfx settings, lowering hardware acceleration in advanced/troubleshootin menu and such stuff, nothing helps. It's strange, cause I've never run into such trouble running other MMOgames, such 9Dragons, 2Moons, Perfect World, RFO, WoW. I've got most recent official drivers for video card.

Sorry for bad english, and please, anybody answer this post as SRO is really the only game I'd like to play for now. Thanks in advance

maybe your graphic card is just overheating, or the fan isnt working properly, trying shutting your computer down for a while then open it and play sro, and see if it shuts or freezes

it was nice idea to try, so I didn't touch the computer the whole sunday and today at about 16, right after turning the comp on I tried to play SRO, but it freezed on the login screen...

There's also something I should mention: Recently I noticed that sometimes the game freezes, screen turns black and after a moment it reappears, but in properties/settings/advanced/troubleshoot tab the 'hardware acceleration' is lowered down by one notch (automatically). After few minutes the same thing happens, but when I look at 'hardware acceleration' it's lowered by 2 notches. OK, screen reappears and after next few minutes it turns completely black, so I have to restart the computer. It's probably because of the fact that after lowering 'h.a.' by 3 notches all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations are turned off I suppose. Hope this info will be helpful.

Update your drivers, it may be the problem...

If you use vista, right click SRO, and in properties set it to run as windows XP

Do u use a dual/quad core processor? (didnt read ur config sry, im busy at work)

Drivers for video card? I've got the most recent, I've mentioned it.

I'm using Windows XP, the game is set to run as Windows 98/Windows Me.

I use a dual core proc.

when I choose to set affinity there are 2 options to tick: CPU 0 and CPU 1 - CPU 1 is already unchecked, so, as u see it doesn't help

I was sure u'd write this... I tried all options: ticking 1st, tickin the other, tickin both, nothing helps. I even tried unticking the second CPU in all other processes, then choosing it only in sro_client, u know, experimentally - ofc, it changed nothing.

Clean the dust out of you PC, seems like an overheating issue.

I had the same problem on my X850.

I have the same problem with my nvidia card. And it seems to be a sro side bug and not anything on our side. Cant do anything about it unless joymax wakes up and does something about it or we should spam their forums with this bug
